I pry my eyes open. Steady beeping sounds fill the small room I'm lying in. I can smell the powerful sent of hospital grade surface cleaner so strong it burns my nose and throat whenever I breath in. As my eyes focus I can see the large machines that surround me. I try to recall the events leading up to this but everything is blurred. I apply pressure on my arms in a sad attempt to sit up, but I was soon proved too weak when my arms collapsed under my weight. I take a deep raspy breath and close my eyes. Why am I here?
A nurse comes through the small white door to my left carrying a tray with a tube of food on it. She places the tray down beside my bed and scans my face, I quickly open my eyes and it makes her jump. Her shocked face is quickly replaced with a smiling one. "You're finally awake." She says in a steady clear voice. I tried to reply with a sarcastic way of saying no but all that came out were squeaks and croaks. "No dear, don't try to talk, I'm sure you have lots of questions but for now you need to relax, I'll send Dr. Archibald in to give you a check up." She announces and briskly swishes out of the room leaving me for about 30 seconds before returning with a tall woman who has stern eyes and a serious face. The woman is looking down at me the way you would look down at a dog turd you just stepped on, with disgust and annoyance. She presses her thick rectangle glasses up further on her creased nose and keeps up her look of distaste even as she clears her throat." hmm hmm, I'm Doctor Allison Archibald" she says sternly. "You may call me Doctor Archibald". I thought about her initials and how they would be A.A, like the battery. In my opinion she was nothing like a battery, more like an old lady with a bun that was to tight for her forehead in a pathetic attempt to flatten out her wrinkles. "Now I'm just here to ask you a few questions and do a quick physical exam, is that okay with you?" She asked looking down at her clipboard, not really interested in my response.
A couple of minutes later, after giving me a physical exam and asking me what I could remember Dr.Archibald left the room with my stumpy nurse sashaying after her, leaving me alone with my thoughts. I looked left out my window to see to see that I'm obviously not close to town, there is a large hill littered pine trees and cattle off in the distance and as I'm looking, a thought pops into my head. Why isn't anyone coming to visit me? Do I have anyone who wants to come and visit? my eyes trace up the hill to one of the larger trees and a beam of light hits me square in the eyes after blinking a couple of times I can see where the shine is coming from, It's like someone is shining a light right into my window from the tree I was looking at, almost as if to get my attention... The stumpy nurse comes back into my room, breaking my train of thought, she has another tray and this time it's got some real food on it. "Here you are dear, have some scrambled eggs and some orange juice" I try to sit up so I can eat but my arms are still to weak to lift my body weight so she lifts me into a sitting position and places the tray on my lap. "ok honey, so I had a little chat with Dr. Archibald and she said it looks like your well on your way to recovery and that if you keep humming you should get your voice back soon" the nurse smiled "u-umm ww-whats www-wrong ww-ith mm-e?" I barely stuttered out " Well, you see dear I'm not exact-" BANG! the room to my door flew open and a boy around the age of 14 or 15 comes crashing in. "get back here!" a voice screeches from the corridor "security! security!" calls my nurse "www-what?" I manage to croak. The boy flings himself at me " Jordan!" he exclaims, pulling me into an airtight hug, sending extremely painful surges through my body "I'm so glad to see you!" he pulls away, frantically analysing my body, only just realising how much he hurt me when he hugged me " oh my god I'm so sorr-" but is cut off by security before he gets to finish his sentence. "who?" I wheeze before he's shoved out of my room. "I'm so sorry that happened dear" cooed the nurse "He's been trying to get in to see you since you were admitted".
