My nostrils flare as I think about the boy who barged into my room three days ago. Why was he only able to get in now? Apparently he'd been trying for almost two months and is the only person whose come to see me... why couldn't these incompetent hospital staff let him in? The noise of my door opening disrupts my train of thought, my stumpy nurse Wanda sways in with yet another tray of disgusting dried out 'scrambled eggs'. "Hi honey" she says directing her attention to me. "I hope you're hungry!" She places the the tray on my fold out table and swings it round in front of me. My nose crinkles in disgust, "why would I want to put any more of this dried camel booger in my mouth?" I ask nonchalantly. "Because I can't get caught giving you my lunch for breakfast again!" Wanda states with a raised eyebrow. "But Wandyyyyy" I complain in a baby voice. "Jordan, you know I love ya honey but not enough to lose my job ok? I've got kids to provide for". I Polk my crusty 'egg' and push it away in distaste and decide just orange juice is all my breakfast is going to consist of today. "You'd think that to work in a hospital a chef would need to know dried camel mucus isn't really supposed to be part of a growing girls diet". I tell Wanda before she gives me a squinty smile, obviously trying not to laugh. I smile as Wanda turns to leave with my tray of 'egg'. I love that crazy woman.
I glance out my window, making my eyes search the tree that light was once emitted from, wondering if it will ever happen again.
Over the last few days I've seen a lot of different doctors, who repeated all the same questions and gave all the same answers. "So what can you remember?" They'd say. "Have you heard from any of my family?" I'd ask. Both of us always getting the same answer "nothing". A sharp light to the eyes breaks my focus. It's coming from the tree! I scramble for something reflective and my bandaged hands find a small mirror, I bounce the sun's light at the tree and wait. I'm so sure that light is someones doing, there's no other explanation. The light moves around all over my room. I watch the distance and I swear I can see a silhouette climb down the tree and make a mad dash across the field that holds the cows. They're coming straight for me...
