Yu shut our bedroom door quietly behind him as we passed through it. I had been skilled enough to come up with the excuse of having to get things ready for tomorrow, seeing how we were leaving after the funeral. I had received a very accusing look from Rebecca but ignored it as I had walked out silently.
I looked over at the clock and saw that it was around five; Susan would be calling us for dinner soon. She always made dinner around five to five thirty and it would usually be done by six. Personally, after all of the experiences with my family that day I didn’t want to be stuck at a table with them for any amount of time. I looked over at Yu who was staring out into space and not paying any attention whatsoever as to what was going on. I fought the smile that wanted desperately to seize my face at the sight of him. He looked like someone who had been set into a room where only educational videos played. I snapped my fingers and he jumped and blinked a few times. I laughed. “Do you want to go out to eat or stay here and eat with the family?”
His eyes darted up for a moment, as if he needed to think on the subject. “Go out.” he said and smirked.
I nodded. “I agree fully!”
Without another word we both walked down the stairs only to meet my aunt on the way down. “Dinner’s ready, I was actually on my way up to tell you guys, Rebecca and Lance.” She smiled and made me feel guilty that we were leaving but I pushed it aside, I wouldn’t put on an act just for these people and I didn’t feel like dealing with them later so going out was the easiest option.
“Actually Yu and I were going to go out if that’s okay… I’d like to just be able to think everything through with Yu for a while…” I added on lamely but she smiled gently.
“I understand. We’ll see you later then.” she dismissed us by continuing up the stairs.
That was one of the best things about Aunt Susan; she never caught on to any trickery or lies, no matter what you said or how obvious things were she remained oblivious to it all. Sometimes so oblivious that even I wondered about her sanity… I cast a glance back at Yu who shrugged before going onward into the kitchen and out the back door. I didn’t want to be caught on the way out of the front by anyone so the backdoor was the last option. I led Yu into the garage from the side door and opened the doors with the keys I had snatched from a counter on the way out. I pushed the ‘unlock’ button on another key and walked to the driver’s side of the metallic orange 2008 Nissan and got in. I waited patiently for Yu to get in before starting the car and driving smoothly out of the garage with more speed than what was really needed. I saw Yu look at me out of the corner of my eye and internally smirked, he hadn’t ever ridden with me while I drove. Most people only let me drive their cars once before silently telling themselves that I would never be allowed to drive again. I didn’t really know why, I mean I wasn’t reckless I just liked to go fast but I was safe about it.
A few minutes later I pulled into a Burger King and parked. I glanced over at Yu who seemed a little spaced out maybe but other than that he seemed to be unfazed. This surprised me because he was probably the first person I had ever driven with who didn’t get out of the car stiff as a board and ready to throw up, not eat. In a way I was happy that my driving didn’t scare him but there was a tiny, much less dominant part of me that kind of wished he had at the least been jolted if nothing else…

I pulled on the tight black sweater and the long flowing black skirt on quickly as a knock came at the bathroom door. “What is it?” I asked.
“Everyone’s waiting downstairs for you…” Yu’s deep voice said quietly.
“Just give me five minutes!” I said, almost out of breath with haste. I already had my makeup and hair done, now I just needed to put the black leather boots that had four inch heels and came up to my knees, in other words pain, that I had bought yesterday after Yu and I had finished our meal at burger King. Anyway, me in heels never worked out, I didn’t know why it just didn’t. I could walk in them beautifully but my feet just pitched a fit whenever I wore them for too long. My hands worked furiously as I zipped them up and looked in the mirror one last time. I sighed in discontent but decided that I was already as good as I was going to get.
