Prologue

A shrill scream erupted from the silence of the dark forest, the sound of heavy footsteps growing louder and louder as whatever fleeing person made their way closer to the swaddled infant on the ground. The person, a male, stopped abruptly at the baby, kneeling next to it, leaves crunching under his weight. Agitated voices and wavering lights were coming closer. The man fumbled with a small chain attached to a dull, bronze key. Quickly wounding it tightly around the wrist of the infant, he kissed the forehead illuminated in the moonlight. Just as soon as he came, he left making more noise while trampling, diverting attention from where the baby actually lay. Only, not all the attention was drawn to the runaway. A shadow moved through the eerie trees that were casting shades from the light of the full moon. A chilly breeze rustled through the darkness, causing the baby to shiver. The shadow transformed into a human who slowly picked up the now awake baby. The key slid into the folds of the blanket, disappearing from the eyes of the live shadow. A large hand gently stroked the baby's cheek. A gunshot echoed off somewhere in Neverland and the infant began to cry. With calloused fingers, the shadow brushed off the tears.

"You're mine"...
