Peg's POV:

"Avon calling." I'm doing my laps around the neighbourhood.

"Weren't you just here?" Asks one of my neighbours, Helen, sounding slightly annoyed.

"No, not since last season. Today I've come to show you our exquisite new line of soft colours in shadows, blushes and lipstick. Everything you need to accent and highlight your changing looks." I say, reassuring her. I tend not to get a lot of sales around here but I do try every season in case one of the ladies changes their mind.

"My changing looks? That's good." She chuckles.

"Well, it goes that saying and I also have a complete selection of your old favourite, those tried-and-true products we've all come to depend on year-in and year-out."

She studies me for a second, slight sympathy seems to be in her eyes then it's gone. "Come on, Peg. I never buy anything from you. You know that."

I half smile. "I know. Bye, Helen." I say although her door is closed in my face before she could hear me speak.

I try Joyce's house next.

There is a repair man's truck in her driveway. I know for a fact that her husband is at work for the day and I know there is probably nothing in need of repair in the house, and yet I think nothing of it. Joyce has plenty of men over while her husband is gone but no one says anything about it because that woman seems to have the power where, if she wanted to, she could ruin your whole life and reputation. I ring the doorbell any way.

When she opens the door, I greet her in the typical 'Avon' way, "Good morning, Joyce. Avon calling."

"Why! Peg. Have you gone blind? Can't you see there's a vehicle in my driveway?" I noticed the truck so I nod. Well, I'm surprised you don't realize that means I'm busy." She slams the door with a bang.

New neighbour have moved in over this season so I decide to check them out for business. Turns out they have a teenage daughter so I make my way into my room and try some samples on her.

"Okay. Now we should decide on lipsticks. Okay, dear, what one did you like best? There was the Winsome Wahini which looked charming on you. Or the Bahenie Bliss."

She shrugs her shoulders. "I like them both."

I smile, "Well great." My first sale of the day. "Now, how will you be paying?"

"You don't actually think I have any money, do you?"
