Falling Apart

Chapter Seven

She’s gone, the love of my life taken from me when I was vulnerable. “We have to find her,” I said my voice sounding strained and un-recognizable. Suddenly I caught a familiar scent in the air as the breeze blew that caused me to jump out the window and ran towards the scent. I had my mind set on who ever tried to hurt my angel, my life, the one who I want to spend the rest of my life with. “One more step and she’s dead!” a familiar voice shouted without thinking I took a step forward and entered a large clearing and saw their faces, “What the Hell!” I shouted; complete shock in my voice. This can’t be happening, once I get my hands around him I’m going to tear him limb from limb. “It’s been too long Robert. How is the vampire life treating you? I see well since you took my girlfriend?” Drew said in a sly cunning voice that actually made me wince. “Firstly, yes it’s been a while since we have seen each other, secondly the life of a vampire is great, and I feel NO REMORSE for killing people that endanger my life or the people I love. Lastly I did take your girl, because I love her and you don’t know how to KEEP ONE in your life.” I said intentionally raising my voice to emphasize some words. “Now Robbie you don’t wanna get me upset because I will hurt her right before your eyes.” Drew said very sure of his word.

“You will never hurt the one you love, and it’s ROBERT.” I said n finished with a nervous laugh

“You are right about two things, I do still love her and yes I will hurt her. Wake her up!”

One of Drew’s helpers then began shaking Elizabeth violently and slapped her across the face; this made my blood boil and a vicious growl then escaped my lips. I then began to think of a plan and eventually it came to me. Elizabeth was now awake but not fully but finally she came too, “Drew, Justin, Matthew? Wha- what’s going on? Robert why am I out here?” Lizzy asked frantically. I sent a mental message to Elizabeth *don’t panic, I have a plan. Just stay calm, I won’t let them hurt you.* this was the first time I used my gift since Angel told me I had one, I have no idea where I got it from but that’s not the only one I’m also what they call a ‘Mirror’ It’s where you have the ability to borrow another vampires gift but you can only use it twice before it begins to weaken. It gets stronger when you are near that vampire again. As I focused more on my plan I heard Dylan, Nick and Evan running my way but Carmen stayed back, “What the hell are you all doing here?” I asked clearly infuriated. “Family helps family; they never let them stand up to a fight alone.” Evan said in a firm voice. I now felt that we were all a family. “Drew, Justin, Matthew I suggest you hand my daughter back over to us and you all leave.” Dylan said trying to act calm but I knew he was close to flipping the switch and killing them all right now. Before I could come back to reality I heard a loud snap and a loud scream, Justin was now putting pressure on Elizabeth arm which he just broke. I then sprinted in Elizabeth direction and the kidnappers fled as my family chased after them. I lifted Elizabeth in my arms and ran back to the house not trying to hurt her hand; I finally reached and laid her on the couch.  Pain was written all over face and this made me angrier; I pulled a few shrubs from her hair and wiped the tears from her eyes. “I’m so sorry!” I whispered trying to put meaning into my voice “What are you apologizing for? I was always expecting this; Drew is someone who will hold a grudge for a while and will do anything to send a message. But I always had doubt that he will never hurt me.” Elizabeth explained while wincing in pain. “Robert I need you to leave the house for a bit, I have to push Elizabeth’s shoulder into place and re-break he wrist to fix it.” Dylan said while hold Lizzy’s injured arm as much as I wanted to leave I couldn’t, I nodded my head denying his offer. Then what happened brought tears to my eyes, Elizabeth’s screams filled the house as she pleaded with Dylan to stop but he didn’t he just continued. Finally the worse was over and Elizabeth was asleep, “This is your entire fault! I regret everything why did I have to be THIS? You caused me to be THIS!” I tried not to shout at Dylan. “Robert Mackenzie Dawn don’t you ever think it’s okay to talk to you father like that. Do you understand me?” Carmen shouted causing Elizabeth to wake up with a scream.

“Don’t think you’re so innocent Carmen, this is as much as your fault as it is Dad’s, you had to go around and screw everything you saw and got pregnant THREE TIMES and what did you do with the four kids? Well as far as I knew you placed Angel and I in foster care when we were born so where’s the other two. I know Angel misses her twin, that’s who she looking for right now!” Some mother! Maybe the life of a whore suits you best.” When I finished Carmen slapped me across the face, I knew I crossed a line but I needed to get that off my chest.

“You don’t ever talk to me like that again I am your mother and you will respect me. DO YOU UNDERSTAND?” Carmen shouted with hurt in her voice

“Yes!” I simply said not wanting to continue this argument

“Yes What?” Carmen said sternly

There is no way in hell I was going to answer her like I’m a five year old, without saying anything I picked Elizabeth up in my arms and went to lay her on my bed. When I laid her on the bed I slowly began to walk out the door, “Robert Dawn!” Elizabeth shouted at me, “WHAT?” I shouted regretting it as soon as it came out. “Excuse me would you like to rephrase you answering me?” Elizabeth asked with her voice very serious. Great now I’m going to get yelled at from my girlfriend. “Sorry love, what I meant to say was ‘Yes Elizabeth?’ I said in a more calm tone, “Thought so! Now you need to go and apologize to Carmen!” Elizabeth said pointing for me to go now. Without a doubt I know I was wrong and I needed to apologize because this is a fight I would never win.  I then walked and kissed Elizabeth on the forehead and ran to Carmen’s and Dylan’s room. As I approached the door I hesitated for a second, “Dylan I have to tell Angel and Robert the truth, Angel is out there looking for a twin sister she’ll never find and I know Robert is missing his big brother. I saw how happy he was when he found out Nicholas and Evan would be a part of this family.” I heard Carmen try to whisper but she did not succeed. “Carmen if you were Robert how would you feel if you found out that your mum and dad decided to kill two of their kids because four kids who had a 50/50 chance of becoming a vampire were too much to handle?” Dylan asked I was now lost for words and paralyzed to that spot. The door then opened and Carmen was face to face with me, “Robert, son. How long were you standing there?” Dylan asked since Carmen seemed to look lost for words.

“You killed them?” I whispered sounding hurt and shocked at the same time.

“Son I’m sorry you had to hear that. It was not like that!” Dylan was talking but I held up my hand to silence him.

“NO! NO! You don’t het to be sorry, you killed them. How could you, they were family!” I said gasping for unneeded air.

“Robert it was not like that!” Carmen finally said.

“Then what was it like?” I shouted back at her.

“I was trying to kill myself! They weren’t supposed to be in the house they were supposed to be at day care!” Carmen shouted, while tears streamed down her face.
