LM: it's 3:42 am and i dont know how anyone could expect me to live without you and god, i know its only been hours but i already feel like falling apart

Lydia pressed send and leaned back against her headboard. Her eyes had been dry for an hour, her body numb with losses unimaginable. She felt, in a word, empty.

Her bedroom's matte silence was stifling, and its absolute darkness made Lydia feel more alone than anything. A gaping hole had been torn into her previously-perfect life; a hole shaped for a best friend now dead.

Lydia couldn't face the idea of funerals to be had, apologies to be received, days to be lived without Allison. Allison had been the missing piece of Lydia's puzzle, but now said jigsaw was turning to ash.

She grabbed her phone again, this time in panicked urgency.

LM: i cant do this. i can't do anything without you.

Lydia wanted to scream.
