Lydia was numb.
The now-cold bath water, the soap against her skin, the pruning of her fingertips - it was all a mystery to her. The anaesthesia of sadness had set in and Lydia was lost to the world around her.

Lydia remained there, breath held, staring at nothing at all, until her lungs felt as though they were scorching with the lack of oxygen.
She surfaced, took a deep breath, tried to rid her chest of the painful, burning sensation.
At least she wasn't numb anymore.
