Lovin' You
When she asked me to come over, I didn't know what to expect. When she opened the door, I most definitely did not expect this.
Julie was always so together. She stood there in a complete disheveled state, hair all mussed, mascara running down her cheeks, her clothes all out of joint.
"It's you!" she said smiling and pulls me into her apartment.
"Hiya you!" she says tapping my nose with the tip of her finger.
"Holy crap, Juls are you drunk?"
"I don't know. Maaybee!"
Julie has never been drunk before. I've known her most of her life. She didn't drink. She was total control freak. It was something we had in common, until now.
A quick scan of the room and I find the bottle of whiskey. Whiskey really.... straight to the hard liqueur?
"Dance with me Billy boy!" she said taking the bottle from my hand, taking a swig then placing it down, right before placing my hands around her slender waist.
She snuggles in and begins to sway. I knew he'd do this to her, and my heart breaks, as I hear her sing with Lady Antebellum.
"Another shot of whiskey can't stop looking at the door, wishing you'd come sweeping in the way you did before. And I wonder if I ever cross your mind. For me it happens all the time."
She stifles a sob. I stop our dance and look into her eyes. "He never deserved you." I say wiping away her tears.
She looks lost and then she leans up. I'd seen it coming but couldn't make it stop. She kisses my lips and I taste the bitterness on them not just from the whiskey but it's almost like she wants to punish me, take out her anger.
I push her away. "Juls you're trashed."
"Thought as much," she said laughing.
"What are you talking about?" I say moving to her kitchen the light streams in through the window. I put on some really strong coffee.
She mopes and flops into a chair. "You don't want me either, no one wants me. I'm unwantable."
I lean against the counter and can't help but smile. "Because I wouldn't make out with you while you're wasted, you think I don't want you?"
She sniffs and says, "Well it's true."
I just scoff and pull out two mugs and set them on the counter. She had no idea how untrue that statement was. It was torture seeing her and John together. He was a total a-hole and "as a friend" I had a detailed, upfront view of the entire fiasco.
"Dance with me, Juls?" I held out my hand.
She took it and I held her close. "There's no music."
"Who needs music?" I began to croon, Minnie Riperton.
"Lovin' you is easy cause you're beautiful. Makin' love with you is all I wanna do.
Lovin' you is more than just a dream come true and everything that I do is out of lovin' you."
