She was in deep. It was bad, real bad. When would she learn? He took her hand in his and smiled. Oh not the smile, please not the smile.

"Everything okay, babe? You seem really distracted tonight?" Devon said looking at Katrina she'd been frowning most of the evening.

She didn't know if she had the will power to let him go. He was like an addiction, she just couldn't get enough but she promised herself she would never, ever give a man that kind of power over her again.

Then it happened they were in the middle of making love and he said the words. Why did he have to spoil things? Why did he have to go and make things more complicated?

"If this is about what I said the other night..." Devon started but Katrina held up her hand to stop him.

"I've just been thinking... that maybe...maybe we should?" Katrina, seen how he flinched at her words, tensing his whole body in preparation for the blow. "Look, it's been wonderful."

"So is this when you tell me it's been great? It's been real? It's been really great but you think we should take a break? Slow things down? Take some time off and see where things go?"

Now it was Kat's turn to flinch. He made it all sound so frivolous, like he's heard them all before a million times over. He was mad. She somehow turned on his anger.

"You know what I get it. The "L" word comes out and you want to run for cover and hide. You want to protect your heart from the inevitable break that's bound to happen. Am I close?" he said and Kat looked away, she knew it was foolish but if he only knew. The last guy nearly destroyed her when he done it. She didn't think she'd survive another round.

He tilted her chin to look at him. He was mad but not at her. He was furious at the one who done this to her. "You're beautiful. You're intelligent. I love you but you're a coward Kat!"

"What?" Katrina said shocked.

"I need you to be brave. I need you to take that leap. I won't lie. I can't guarantee I'll never hurt you. Just like you will hurt me too. It's bound to happen someday but I promise you if that day comes I'll make it up to you. I won't walk away. I promise to make it right again. That's all I can do. Can you do that for me too?"

She didn't know if she could all she could say was, "I'll try."
