It's only been a few months since I adopted Katy, but she was learning fast. She had already learned to stand up and run around the den or in the Hot Springs. Well, more like waddling like a puppy does.

Everyday after I was finished with my Alpha duties, I went to pick Katy up and headed to the Hot Springs. My friends and I were trying to truly raise her as one of our family, especially me since I wanted to be like a mother figure to her, and I was.

I also had to end up telling Alpha, and at first he seemed shocked. But then once it started to sink in, he thought I wouldn't be able to carry on as an Alpha. Of course, I persuaded him that I could handle both at once, especially since I had help from Lonnie and my friends. Luckily, he agreed, and I got to keep my position as an Alpha.

Now, I was running to the Hot Springs with Katy dangling in my mouth. I ran into the clearing to find that my friends hadn't arrived yet. I sat Katy down on the ground, and she shook her little body.

I smiled at her, and she looked up at me with her sweet hazel brown eyes. Her little tongue hung out of her mouth as her little black tail wagged furiously behind her. She yipped and yapped at me, causing me to laugh.

She jumped at me while growling her little growl, and I bowed into a playful stance. I playfully growled and barked. Katy yipped again as she leaped at me and started to tug on my ear with her tiny teeth. I laughed as I fell to the ground and acted like she had me.

"Oh no! You got me! Help! Help!" I yelled as I acted like I was in trouble. Suddenly, I heard Katy scream as she released my ear. I looked up to see a black wolf with Katy in his mouth.

"Now, I've got you," he said with an evil smile. Katy screamed again as she wriggled in his grasp.

"Give me back my pup," I growled playfully as my tail wagged behind me.

"You want her back? Come get her," he said with a smirk and a raised eyebrow.

I leaped at Leo, but he quickly jumped out of the way. I chased after him as Katy screamed again and swung back and forth in Leo's mouth.

Finally, I caught up enough to bite the end of Leo's tail. Leo yelped in pain, and I rushed forward to snatch Katy from him.

Leo whimpered as he turned around to look at his tail. "You didn't have to bite me!" He yelled at me.

I sat Katy down and looked at him with a sly smile. "Then stay away from my pup." Katy looked up at me and smiled adoringly. I smiled back and bent down to lick her little head. "I will always be there for you, Katy. No matter what," I told her as I looked into her eyes.

"I love you, mommy," she said as she jumped up onto my face and licked my nose. I smiled. She couldn't really talk yet, but she had learned a few sentences, including that one.

Katy backed down, and I stood back up. I felt a soft tongue lick the side of my face, and I leaned into Leo as I drank in his scent. I looked over at him to see him looking lovingly at Katy. He really was just so sweet with her.

Katy ran around us as she yipped and yapped. "Come here, you," I growled as I bent down and snatched her up. Katy screamed and giggled as I ran up to the top of the cliff to watch the sunset.

Katy sat next to me as she watched the sun intently with her little tail wagging on the ground behind her. Leo came walking up the cliff and sat next to me. I leaned into Leo again as the three of us watched the sun dip below the horizon together.

"Come on, Katy. Keep up," I called over my shoulder. Katy was almost a year old now, and I was still nineteen.

Katy was waddling after Leo and I as we went on a walk. We were just randomly walking through the Golden Forest. It was a beautiful day, too. The Golden Forest had its beautiful golden hue to every piece of life, the forest was packed with scampering critters, and there was a clear blue sky above.

We started to near the end of the forest that was close to the border when a bush ahead of us quivered. I dropped down into a hunter's crouch as the scent of a rabbit drifted to me.

"Okay, Katy. Stay perfectly still, and then slowly inch forward, light on your paws." Katy copied me as I made my way to the bush.

I was about to leap when I heard a vicious snarl. A large grey wolf leaped over the bush as the rabbit darted towards me and away. Two other wolves jumped after the grey wolf.

I quickly twisted around and snatched Katy up as I ran as fast as I could in the opposite direction. Leo ran by my side growling and snarling at the wolves who gave chase.

Quickly, I realized that we were leading them straight to the village. But we couldn't go there. There were too many vulnerable wolves. I veered to the right as Leo skidded across the ground at my sudden change in direction.

Leo raced after me as we ran through the forest. "Leo! Howl for the help!" I yelled through Katy's fur in my teeth. Katy screamed and whined in fear. "Shhhh. It's okay, Katy. It's going to be okay," I mumbled.

Leo howled for help as we ran. We took several sharp turns, trying to throw the wolves off of our trail, but it never worked.

Finally, I couldn't take it anymore. "Leo!" I screamed as I tossed Katy's little body into the air. Leo leaped up and caught her in his mouth. "Take her to the den and get help! Hurry!"

Leo took off with Katy swinging in his mouth as I turned to the three wolves, snarling. "You don't belong here," I growled as we circled each other.

"Actually, we do. It's you who doesn't belong," the grey wolf growled back. I released a deep growl that had risen up my throat.

"Get off of Wild Wolf Pack territory, River Valleys!" I yelled at them. We continued to circle each other before one of the wolves, a brown female wolf with a notched ear, leaped at me with her jaws wide. I ducked and twisted around to bite at her sides when the other wolf, a red wolf, fell onto my back and started to bite my sides and shoulders. I yelped and jostled around as I tried to throw the wolf off of me. Then, I felt the other two wolves join their friend as the three bit and nipped my sides rapidly. I just couldn't keep up.

Suddenly, I heard a howl as a huge patrol of Alphas came crashing through the undergrowth and attacked the intruders. The three wolves retreated back to their own territory with their tails between their legs.

I staggered to my feet and watched as half of the Alphas chased after the wolves as the other half stayed with me or walked back to the village.

"Kate, are you alright?" I turned to look at Alpha as I nodded my head.

Then, I remembered. "Where's Leo? And Katy?" I asked as I began to panic. What if they had been captured? What if they were injured? What if they were being killed?

"They're fine, Kate. Leo took Katy back to your den. Now, I must be going," he said as he turned away.

I ran through the Golden Forest until I came to the den. I ran inside and immediately was struck by Leo and Katy's scent. I followed the scent all the way to my room.

Inside, Leo was curled up on my pelt with Katy snuggling with him. I smiled at the pair and curled up next to Leo.

I took a deep breath and sighed. I nuzzled into Leo's soft black fur and closed my eyes. That night, I didn't have any nightmares, visions, or troubled images. All I dreamed of was my perfect family.
