Chapter Three:
Alex's Point Of View:
We strolled on the same dirt path that held so many memories from my childhood. Or what parts of my childhood I could remember.
"So, Alex, are you much of a rebel?" Annalise asked me, smirking in her devilish way.
"Not really, I mean, sure, I'm a defiant person who will always go against what everyone portrays as right, I just have the gut feeling of what's right," I said with a smile.
"I'm pretty sure that's what a rebel is," she said side glancing at me.
"So how are we going to get in the town. And how will they not recognize me if I'm so "famous," I said emphasizing the word "famous."
"You are honey, and I have a plan," she said.
"Should I be reassured by that? Or frightened?" I questioned.
"Both," she said plainly.
We took a few side turns down paths I had never been down and places where there wasn't even a path before we reached a small house.
"Is this..?" I trailed of looking in awe at the piece of art in front of us.
I mean, food is considered art right?
"Yep, the one and only," she said opening the gingerbread door.
"Come on," I said standing in awe of the candy house.
I remember my Grandmother telling me this story.
"Go ahead," she waved a hand at the licorice door frame.
I stepped towards it and grabbed a handful of frosting off the windowsill.
"How do you keep the bums out of here?" I asked curiously, taking a bite of licorice.
"You don't, it's sort of like a rec place I took over when the incident happened. And there aren't many bums believe it or not, they're all in Scarlett," she said looking around inside the house.
"Hmm," I said taking a chunk of chocolate off the window pane.
"What happens when it rains and snows? And shouldn't this place melt? I mean this candy has got to be getting old by now! And wouldn't it have collapsed?" My curious mind would not cede.
"Shush!" Annalise said laughing.
"Jeez I wouldn't be surprised if you overthink yourself to death! You want to know how it's kept up?" She said walking close to me.
"Yeah," I said.
"Magic," she whispered in my ear.
"Shut up," I said playfully, pushing her head away.
"Now come on, we don't have much time until the search party comes after us. And I have a feeling Bo knows where we are," she said shutting the door behind me.
The house inside was so pretty and antique like. It had couches and the kitchen looked fully stocked.
"Why do you think Bo knows where we are?" I asked puzzled.
"You want to know the real story? Not that little kid bullshit?" She asked and I nodded.
I sat down where she told me, a stool in the kitchen. She set her bag on the counter and then opened setting hair supplies out on the counter.
"What the hell are you doing?" I asked standing up.
"Alex, hun, calm down, I'm just going to enhance you so that no one recognizes you!" she said trying to reassure me.
