Chapter Five:
Alex's P.O.V:
We didn't walk fast, admiring the scenery that surrounded us as we strolled. The stars shined vividly against the slate night sky.
"Are you looking forward to seeing your friends?" Annalise questioned, side glancing at me.
"Of course, it's just that..." I trailed off, unable to put my thoughts into words.
"You're nervous because you ran off right after you had arrived when they told you not to and especially because your hair is obviously so different," she summed it up pretty well.
I nodded in agreement, letting the crickets consume our conversation. I pulled the hood of my red cape over my head, relishing the satisfaction of having my cape back.
It cloaked over my quivering body, masking in my body heat. Rubbing my hands together, I watched my breath appear in the frozen air, cascading away like curls of smoke.
"It's getting cold again. Right when I thought we had reached the peak of spring," she clicked her tongue.
"It's so strange, the snow had just begun to fall right as we reached the forest," I replied, brushing the white flakes off my shoulders.
We heard them first, the crunching sound their footsteps made as they marched through the fluffy white pillows of snow.
A wave of panic snuck up on me.
"Shhh," Annalise said, guiding me behind a random oak tree.
"Who goes there," she said, mocking a male's tone of voice.
We herd an angry groan and before we knew it Nick was holding her by the collar.
"Hey," she said, snapping out of his grip.
"We told you not to leave," Nick said to me, squinting his eyes with rage.
I mimicked his expression.
Bo rushed to his side, catching his breath as he watched our exchange of sneers. We started walking again, only it was dead silent, meeting paths with Erik, Erin, and Justin.
"I see your mission was successful," Justin commented, eyeing my cloak.
"Definitely," I said with a cheerful smile.
"I smell blood and corpses," Nick mumbled.
"Like you should be talking, furball," I muttered back with a dark expression.
"No offense," I smiled at Annalise and she smiled back.
He stopped dead in his tracks and I swallowed a lump in my throat.
"What'd you say?" he said, trying to be intimidating.
"You heard me," I said fearlessly.
He lunged forward, transforming his tan skin into jet black fur, snarling as his dark red eyes glowed in the moonlight.
My eyes bulged and I jumped back. His top lip curled up, revealing sharp daggers. A low growl prowled out of his mouth and floated to my ears and I started to run towards the house.
It wasn't in sight but I could sense it was close, my cloak fluttering behind me as I sped through the woods.
I barged in, slamming the door behind me. It had completely vanished from my mind of all the people there.
