What happens when a certain elf is determined to find out more about you (Calista)?
Legolas sighed as he went to carry out his father's orders.
"Search the premise for any orc activity."
Legolas looked at Thranduil. "Adar (father), didn't the guards already do that?"
"Well, it never hurts to be careful in times like these."
He strolled around the relatively safe forests in Mirkwood, patrolling the borders around Thranduil's Halls.
Then Legolas turned around a corner to find a group of little elflings sitting on a picnic blanket. He was going to tell them to head back to the courtyard since the sun was nearly down, but he noticed a stunning elf taking care of them.
She was talking to the children sweetly, and it dawned upon him that she was the new teacher.
"Legolas, there is a new teacher in Mirkwood you should introduce yourself to," Thranduil informed him.
Thranduil had noticed that his son wasn't paying attention, so he started lecturing him, "Son, if you're not going to-"
Legolas, however, was too busy mocking his father in his head. "Oh, I'm the king of Mirkwood. I have glorious hair."
"Do you understand, Legolas?"
"Yes, Adar (father)," he replied with a smile.
"Good."
The female elf was beautiful, her dark skin contrasted the light of the rising moon, making her stand out even more.
Legolas was lost in his thoughts until he heard someone start singing. It was the teacher, and she sang a sad tale of love. "No dawn. No day, I'm always in this twilight, in the shadow of your heart."
The song was depressing, but she sang it with such conviction that it made the listener want to stay a while just to hear what exactly she was passionately singing about.
Legolas, tired of spying creepily from the shadows, decided to approach the teacher. After all, didn't his father say to introduce himself?
"Isn't that song a bit depressing for young ears?" Legolas asked, wearing a grin on his face.
The teacher chuckled. "It's just one of my favorite songs."
"It suits your voice," he replied.
In the background, the elflings giggled at the exchange between the handsome prince and their teacher.
She raised her hand out in front of her. "I'm Calista."
Legolas shook her hand. "Legolas."
Calista smiled. "Oh, I know who you are. Your father told me about you."
"Legolas and Calista, sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G," the children started singing.
"Alright, we should head back inside, and I'll take you back to your parent's sleeping quarters," Calista began to gather up the blankets and line the children up to avoid anymore singing about her and Legolas.
"Until we meet again, Legolas."
Legolas nodded. "Until we meet again."
***
Legolas paced around his room. He knew he had only talked to Calista in what had felt like a fleeting moment, but she was the main subject of his thoughts right now.
He needed to get closer to her, and if there is one thing he's good it, it's being persistent.
***
A month after Calista's arrival"Calista!" Legolas yelled through the garden. "This is ridiculous."
He examined a nearby tree for any sign of Calista.
"You're too good at hide and seek." Legolas feigned an exasperated sigh. "I guess you win."
Calista then appeared from right behind him.
Legolas's mouth dropped. "Were you right behind me the whole time?"
She shrugged. "Maybe."
"But I have keen senses," he said.
"Not keen enough," Calista replied and stuck her tongue out at Legolas.
Legolas pointed at her and cried out, "That's not nice!"
An young elf in Calista's class huffed, "You are so childish."
Legolas and Calista laughed at the elfling's remark.
"Let's go back inside, everyone," Calista told the class.
As she headed to go inside the children, Legolas pulled her aside.
"Calista?"
She raised her eyes to meet his. "Yes?"
Legolas shuffled his feet. "I, uh, was wondering if you'd like to-"
"Yes," she cut him off.
"Thanks for agreeing to help me clean out the stables," Legolas joked.
Calista rolled her eyes. "You know you were asking me out on a date."
"I know," he replied.
Legolas was intensely happy in that moment, and his mind focused on Calista.
Her smile. Her eyes. Her laugh. Her.
Legolas couldn't get Calista out of his head, but he knew this infatuation with her was well worth it.
And, eventually, he knew this infatuation would develop into something more.
