Introduction

Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls. Welcome to my story. This is my first attempt at a fanfiction, so I'm sorry in advance if this makes your eyes beg for mercy. Some details may not be correct, but they're there for the story's sake. Without further ado please enjoy Breaking down your walls. All of the characters belong to Cassandra Clare.

You can never truly love someone if you believe that they have no flaws. No one's perfect.  If you love someone, you love them with all your heart, you'll realize that they have cracks that don't quite reach the surface. If you want to spend the rest of your life with that person, you will accept their flaws, and try to fix them. You will never stop trying. If they push you away, tell you that they don't need to be coddled, try again. Never give up on them. No matter what the circumstances.

Especially if that loved one is a boy named Alec Lightwood. Alec is a quiet boy, shy even, who's always played by the rules. He cares deeply about his family, even more than he cares about him self. Alec is seemingly perfect at a first glance. If you even bother to spare him one. Alec perfected the art of being invisible. Hell, he practically invented it. Compared to his prodigy brother Jace, Alec was nothing. And he liked it this way. You see, Alec has a secret, a secret that he's kept for most of his life. He learns to work around this secret, to live with the pain on his own. Eventually, the secret becomes too much for him. So he builds walls. Sturdy walls meant to protect him from the realities of the world out side, when really, the walls are doing the most damage. He becomes closed off, worrisome, but perhaps the most devastating effect of these walls is that he hides away his true self where no one can find it.

 Alec was gay. That was it. In Shadowhunter society, being gay was considered one of the greatest sins you could commit. Possibly on the same scale as treason or manslaughter. No one knew of Alec's secret. Alec had built walls  around his heart, and he was never letting anyone in. No one was allowed to see how broken he was behind his walls.

This is all going to change though. Slowly but surely, Alec's walls will come down, brick by brick. One fateful day will change his life forever. The day he met Magnus Bane.
