"Well, it all started with..."Tyler began, his hands raising to add emphasis to the story at hand. Josh listened attentively, eager to hear just how the two had come to this point in time.
Tyler didn't mean to. He really didn't want to have to just take it like that. But, he needed it, after all, he was hungry. It was a last minute decision that Tyler hadn't thought through. It was just there, and it was open for the grabs. It was a simple operation, grab the crackers and go. Yet, it wasn't as simple as he'd originally thought.
Tyler grabbed the bag of crackers, Saltines specifically, and started to make his way to the door. When he tried to go through the scanners, he should've known that they would pick up the stolen bag. So, Tyler stood, knuckles white around his jacket as the cashier came over to him. Tyler remembers his face perfectly. The smile and the wave, insisting that it was probably just a mistake. But, Tyler knew it wasn't a mistake.
The cashier knew that Tyler had an object on him, Tyler just knew his lie wasn't the greatest. He didn't mean to push him over. He didn't mean to make the cashier fall and hit his head that hard. He just wanted crackers.
Tyler never ran so fast in his life. The screaming from the woman in the store, telling him to get back there. Tyler silently thanked the Lord that he had his hoodie covering his face at the time. He sprinted for a few blocks, he didn't bother to look at the street signs. After successfully finding an alleyway by a business office that was far enough away in his perspective, Tyler made a sharp turn and sunk as far into the dark area as considered possible. His back hit the wall and he slid down, his hands covering his face as he threw the bag of chips on the floor. What had he done? Then the voice came through to him again.
Tyler, they're going to catch you. You're going to jail.
Tyler wanted to scream. He wanted to scream until he ran out air and his lungs collapsed. But, he couldn't. He couldn't ever do that.
Eventually, Tyler found himself on his knees, pulling out his red ski mask from his pocket and laying it in front of him. He stared at it, his eyes simply scanning over every stitch, every texture. And there was peace for a moment. It wasn't a relaxing kind of peace, if that truly made sense, but rather an uptight and tense one. Yet, Tyler stayed there, the risk of someone finding him. And, someone did after about half an hour of sitting and waiting.
The first thing he saw was the stranger's pink hair. It had a certain amount of fluff to it, but it was the perfect amount. Because it was pretty much the only thing that Tyler could see of the man at the time, and there was a strange silence growing in between the two of them, of course Tyler said what first came to mind. In reality, he did think the hairstyle was pretty rad, so he had to ask about it somehow.
Tyler kept thinking about he'd wanted to dye his hair at some point, but he never really thought that he'd look good with it, so Tyler would have stayed away from the topic. Besides, he liked his brown hair. It just made Tyler feel a little more like himself, even if some days, he didn't want to be. It was one of the things that Tyler had to remind himself that he was in fact, Tyler.
Tyler skipped forward in time at that point, figuring Josh already knew the rest of the story. Also, it was a way to get away from the rambling on about Josh's sick hair that he'd started off on. It made Josh smile and giggle like a little kid, so Tyler almost didn't want to stop. Who knew that Tyler would be sitting in a total stranger's home, on the same stranger's bed, making him laugh and give him confidence about his hair? Certainly not Tyler, that was for sure.
Eventually, Tyler was sitting directly across from Josh, both of them sitting criss-crossed, both smiling. One of the boys' smiles were fake, however. That was something Tyler left out of the conversation. The voices. Blurryface. Tyler figured, if Josh wanted him to stay, then that would be something he could know about him sometime in the future, when they were closer.
The time then was 3:07. Both of them might've been a little tired, but at the same time, neither wanted to sleep. They wanted to keep the conversation going, Josh wanting to learn more about the interesting person seated in front of him, Tyler wanting to figure out if Josh was worth while.
