Chapter 4:
Lea Ramos
After the moderate car ride, besides with the small nosy interview with my mom, a good feeling bubbled up inside my stomach. It felt endless, and it would be my prerogative to keep feeling this way forever. And, this was all because of a boy.
"How was it?" She asked.
"It was actually great!" I replied.
From the rear view mirror, I could see my mom's eyebrows rise. She said, "Oh really? Did it have to do with that guy that was with you earlier?"
"No!" I exclaimed, shaking my head furiously, "No no no no, no it wasn't! He's just a friend."
The thought of our scenery from class popped into my head. My cheeks grew crimson.
"Okay," she said slowly, "Does he go to your acting class? By the way, how was that? You liked it, right?"
"Yes, he is from my acting class, and yes, that class is great! I actually really like it there!"
Mom nodded, not leaving her eyes off the road. Breaking the silence, I said, "Thanks, Mom- for all of this."
"It's all good, sweetie," Mom said, "This is for the benefit of you, and this can benefit our new lives. I like it here, Lea, and I hope you do, too." I nodded in response, concluding the conversation.
I finally ended up on my bed after around 15 minutes of driving. A knock was heard from the doorway.
"Come in." I said.
The door slowly opens and Mom's head peeks from behind. She asked quietly, "You have a minute?" I nodded and beckoned her to sit at the foot of my bed.
"It's not going to be long," Mom said, "This is just to remind you that you're starting school in a few days."
"Already?" I asked, raising my eyebrows, "What school am I going to?"
"You're going to this private high school called Hillcrest View," She said, "It's for young professionals or people who want to begin a career. It's pretty good when I looked at it, and it's not far from where you take your acting classes. I think you might enjoy it. And for your information, I applied you two weeks before we came here. Didn't you realize that there is a big box that says, 'school supplies'?"
I raised an eyebrow and looked to where my mom points. In the back of the room, next to my desk, I spot a box unopened. My mouth shaped to an 'o' in realization.
Mom chuckled and kissed the top of my head. "Hey, maybe your new friends go there also." She said, before getting up and leaving the room and closing the door.
New friends. It felt so foreign of her to say that, especially to me. I can't believe that I have made new friends.
I rested my head on my pillow, suddenly hearing my phone buzz. I looked at the screen, finding a text from Dylan.
He wasn't kidding that he was going to text me, I thought. I unlocked my phone.
Dylan: hey
I began to type:
Lea: hey
Immediately, he replied back. The whole conversation rose to a new level when we started talking about school.
