The girl who lived

When she was younger,

she looked around at night.

Alert for the monsters,

for the ones that bite.

She was scared,

she laid under her blanket- still.

So afraid, so young,

her only fear was those who 'steal'.

The ones who were evil,

the ones who were bad.

Now that she is older,

she is more scared.

Now that she is older,

she has realised that

the monsters,

are not only under the bed.

They thirst for blood--

those she feared.

They stopped at nothing until they won,

until the bodies were cleared.

In her eyes,

she was the next target.

So she beat them to it,

and took herself off the market.

Now at a higher level,

than those she knew.

Her father, sister, and mother,

were still in the queue.

She thought she had won,

that she was victorious.

But in reality,

they were the ones glorious.

Looking back now,

she realised her mistake.

They didn't want to spill blood,

they just wanted her life to take.

Now stuck in a blinding prison,

she realised that the one whom wanted her dead,

was indeed a monster.

The one who lived inside her head.

-Herself.
