Dark Path

Chapter 7

''How was your day?'' asked my mom as she came in my room. It was late, as usual. my mother always worked late, she never told me why and I never asked so yeah.

''It was like usual;'' Ok so maybe I lied a little, I didn't really want to tell her what really happened. ''How was yours?'' I asked

''You know, the usual'' she said, she looked a little nervous for some reason but I didn't know why and I wasn't sure if I should ask. My mother and I really weren't as close as other mothers and daughters, we barely talked, we only ate together on Sunday, or at least as much as we could since my mom was always busy.

''Did you eat?'' she asked with a different face.

''Of course'' I said. I always eat dinner alone. Maybe now that I have Lex and Katya, I would have actual company when I get back home.

''I'm tired, I'm gonna go to bed'' she said. ''Don't stay up to late'' she said and walked out without saying another word.

''That's your mother?'' asked Lex's voice from behind me.

I turned around and found him behind me sitting on the window bench with the window open.

''Hello to you too'' I said smiling. Did he just get in by the window, was he seriously outside listening to me and my mother's conversation?

''Ever heard of privacy?'' I asked. His expression changed, his smile faded from his handsome face. his eyes turned cold and his jaw was set tight. Maybe I said to much? ''I'm sorry, I shouldn't of been so cold when I said that'' I said trying to calm him down.

''Listen Danny, you know I like you but remember, I will not take orders from you nether will you talk to me that way again, do you understand?'' he said but I was shocked, this was not the Lex I met today and who I had possibly fallen in love with, this was not him and it scared me to see him this way.

I was scared by this other side of Lex who I had no met before nether had I wanted to, ''yes'' I said with a little shy voice. His expression softened a little but his jaw was still set tight and he did not say a word for a few seconds.

''So, what's new?'' he asked but now he changed completely, to his old self that I met today. I tried to forget about what happened only a minute ago so I pretended it had never happened.

''Nothing, you?'' I asked looking down.

''Nothing either, well actually, I had the best day o my life but I'm sure you don't want to hear me bable about it'' he said as if he was a girl who just got asked out my the hottest guy in school. if it could make me forget what just happened, then yeah why not.

''What happened?'' I asked. He sat on my bed and looked excited.

''I met the bets girl in the world at school today'' he started. Now I am beyond confused, was he talking about me or did he actually meet a better girl that liked much more. ''She was shy at first but then she opened up to me, she even became best friends with my sister. I have to admit, I hope she understands how I really feel about her and hopefully she will feel the same way'' . It made no more sense to me. he had met an other girl that he liked much more, of course he did, why did I try to pretend like it was never going to happen. I am the last girl on any guys list to like. I suddenly hate him for everything he had done to me today. ''Are you okay Danny?'' he asked

''Yes, of course'' I said and I immediately looked down, I didn't dare look at him, now I know why he changed all of the sudden to the cold Lex I didn't know.

''You know I was talking about you, right?'' he said and that just confused completely, I didn't understand a thing anymore, he's so weird, he changes just like that, I just don't understand him anymore and we have only known each other for a day. I didn't want to look like an idiot so I pretended I knew what he was talking about and stayed embarrassed after wards.

''You know Katya is super happy to have a friend like you'' he said as we sat on my bed and talked.

''What's gonna happen when she finds out about, well, what happened earlier?'' I asked. He looked at me, searching for something in my face but he gave up and groaned.

''She'll understand'' he said and laid down on my bed while I looked down at my lap and felt all the guilt. He didn't understand at all what I was feeling and it bothered me, much more then I thought.

''Come on Danny, what do you think she's gonna do, she can't make us not love each other'' He said. At the word love, I just changed in some sort of way, I didn't understand what was going on with me.

''She's your sister and she is a vampire you idiot of course she can change it, she can compell me to forget it, you can both make me do things against my will'' I said out of nowhere.

Lex looked at me, still searching for something in my face and this time he didn't give up, I think he found what he was looking for. ''oh god Danny, please don't say that'' he said, I expected him to react like he did before but he didn't. ''I actually love you, you have to understand that I told you because I want you to know what you could get into'' he explained.

''I'm sorry Lex, I don't know what's happening to me today'' I said. it was try, I didn't know what I was saying or why I was saying it. I think all I needed was to sleep.

''Here'' he said moving from my bed, he went in front of me and picked me up in his arms and brought me to my bed, he moved the covers and gently laid me there. He took the sheets and slipped them on me so I could sleep.

''You need to sleep, I'll stay right here until you wake up, ok?'' he said gently as if he was my father and I was his scared little girl. I knew he cared a lot for me but I still didn't understand what happened before. He was still full of secrets, but for how long would he keep them from me, and how long till I finally understand him? So many questions yet to be answered.

''Goodnight Danny'' he said and sat on the window bench until I finally fell asleep.
