"Oh my gosh! I just met Toby! Oh my gosh!" I was freaking out.
"You didn't just meet him, you got up close and personal, literally!" Cori laughed at her pun.
"He knows I exist now!" I was so excited I had to him onto my chair to keep from bouncing up and down.
Cori watched me fangirl, laughing, half in amusement, half in annoyance. She put up with me and my obsessions, but I knew she had to be excited too because she liked Toby. Not as much as I did, but she liked him.
"Are you gonna open that?" Cori asked, gesturing to the envelope sticking out of my bag.
"Oh yeah! I totally forgot!" I reached out and snatched it from my purse, immediately beginning to fumble with the seal.
"I'm sure you did," Cori said, with a hint if sarcasm. Okay maybe a lot of sarcasm.
"It's my correspondence application! They found a match!" I exclaimed. Cori nearly jumped out of her seat because I sort of yelled the words.
"What?"
"I applied to this correspondence company. Nobody writes letters anymore, and I love writing letters so I applied. They send you an address or p.o. box to write to, along with the application of the person you're writing to!"
"Who did you get?"
"Joey ."
"Joey who?"
"I don't know, we don't give last names. And I put Kay, instead of Britain, just in case."
"Oh. What's he like?"
I read Cori his application, which read:
Name: Joey
Occupation: film student
Interests: video games, food, video games, YouTube, video games, music, video games, filmmaking, and video games.
It continued but everything else was boring so I left it out. Also included was a letter, written by Joey.
"Hi!
My names Joey and you're probably my penpal if you're reading this. By the time you read this I've probably read your letter and I I know who you are. I probably know where you live too depending on if you have a p.o. box or a mailbox. Dang it! I sound like a stalker AND an idiot haha! Anyway I'm writing the way I talk so you could read this out loud and it would pretty much be me. Lol.
Joey"
Reading it made me smile. He seemed nice! I decided that I would go straight home so I could write back. I was so excited!
~~~~~~~~~~~
I sat down at our kitchen table with a pen and a piece of paper and began to write.
"Joey,
Hi! I got your letter! I'm Kay. I'm super excited about this because I love writing letters and nobody does it anymore!
Reading your application made my laugh! I like all that too! Especially food and YouTube. What kind of music do you like? Do you write music at all? I'm going to VidCon in a few days! Are you?
Anyway, enough with the questions! Is there anything you want to k ow about me?
Kay"
I folded the letter and placed it in an envelope. When I looked at his p.o. box to address the envelope I realized that its number, 62357, was right next to mine, 62358. I gaped at the application.
"He may end up being more than a penpal," I laughed to myself.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
After dropping off the letter the next day, I decided to grab a Jamba Juice. And maybe this time I wouldn't run into Toby literally.
I sat at the table sipping my smoothie and looking at the VidCon schedule on my phone, making mental notes of every time Toby was mentioned. After a while I decided I should just put then all in my calendar and alarm clock. As I was doing this I was interrupted.
"Audience? Wha-? What are you doing sneaking up on Britain? Hot hot hot!"
My entire body flooded with warmth and I spun around to see Toby leaning on the back of my chair.
"Toby!" I squealed and jumped up to hug him. Before I realized what I was doing I was in his arms again. It felt so perfect. Was this how he hugged everyone?
"Hey Brit!" He laughed, "Fancy seeing you here!"
"Toby! The audience!" I pointed to his iPhone that hung in his hand by his side.
"Oh, no. It's an Instagram video! Already posted." He laughed and winked at me.
He pulled up a chair and sat down. This gave me chills. He wanted to see me.
"How's it going?" Toby asked, giving the stupid, open mouthed grin he does when he says something stupid.
I laughed, "It's going well!"
"Are you going to VidCon?" He looked like a lost puppy, although somehow I knew he didn't mean to.
"I am!"
He grinned, "Guuurl, we gon' have to meet up!" He giggled and stood up. "I'm gonna order." He walked over to the counter and leaned on it as he ordered. He was wearing his black Tobuscus shirt, light blue Tobuscus hoodie, pajama pants and heelies.
I slurped up the last of my drink just as an employee walked by. He took my drink and looked at me for a second. Then he looked at Toby.
"Are you two a thing?" he asked.
I blushed hard, "No," I said, a bit to firmly.
"Okay because he's been in here at least 5 times since yesterday. He'll walk in, look around and sometimes buy a drink but usually he'll just leave."
My blushing spread to my ears, "Really?"
"Yeah, I just thought I'd let you know." the employee left and Toby replaced him.
"Miss me?" Toby asked, smiling.
"I almost died of loneliness," I replied, smiling back, feeling completely comfortable flirting. He was obviously interested.
His expression softened, as if he was pleasently surprised that I was flirting. I twirled a strand of hair and looked into his eyes, trying to mimmick the piercing look that Cori gives. I must have failed because Toby burst out laughing. At first I was embarrassed, but then I began to laugh too.
"Find me at VidCon," Toby instructed, standing up.
"Oh, I will," I mumbled under my breath.
"Hm?"
"I will!" I smiled as captivatingly as humanly possible.
He began to walk towards the door, but he stopped. He looked back at me, smiled, and gestured for me to come over. I stood and walked to him. He wrapped me up in a hug and placed a tiny, almost to small to notice, kiss on my temple, but i felt it. I felt it.
He let me go, turned and left. I smiled uncontrolably.
The employee who had taken my cup shouted over the counter, "Are you sure you two aren't a thing?"
