the year started off as every year had since eighth grade: we all got together, said hello, made fun of lucas's unibrow (no matter how hard he tries, it always comes back), and then have one big group hug.

"guys, guess what!" evie said excitedly, and loudly, as usual. she was wearing black everything, as usual, accompanied with a red plaid flannel.

"nobody cares about people who wear the 1975 t-shirts." lucas said, trying to make a joke about what evie was wearing. he even rolled his eyes. awh, how cute. it's been, what, like five or six years of him being friends with us and he still hasn't learned that we make fun of him, not the other way around. we all just looked at him, even ian, who only really hung out with us because he was dating my other best friend, farris scott.

lucas pouted a little and we all started laughing. what a dork. lucas was the one everybody joked about. i don't know why, we've just always done it. back in eighth grade, we used to call him short all the time. unfortunately, he's grown since then. lucas is now taller than everybody in our group (i call it the bitch circle... it'll catch on one day) except ian, but i still don't really count him as part of the group.

"what, evie?" marlee said between giggles, and we all quieted down to see what evie had to say.

"i got a daddy!" evie said excitedly.

"um... i'm pretty sure you've had one since you were born." i pointed out. everybody was looking at her weird, though we probably shouldn't have. we were used to weird stuff like this from evie by now. and we all knew that she really meant.

"oh, shut up, ya goose!" she rolled her eyes at me, "you know what i meant! not a dad, a dad-dy. his name is jonesy. he's so—" she made some faces i'd rather not describe, but let's just say she found jonesy extremely attractive. lucas even covered his eyes, poor kid. it didn't hide his unibrow, though.

"whatever floats your potato." alex commented next to me and we all laughed.

"if you wanna know whose really hot, y'all should come see alex's brothers." i told them, wiggling what eyebrows i had. let's just say they were not on fleek.

alex hit me hard in the arm. "gross!" she exclaimed as i pouted and rubbed my probably bruised arm. why did she have to four (attractive) brothers that made her so violent?

"forget her brothers, their friend jessen is better than all of them." kylie commented, grinning at us. i glared at her, silently willing her to stop liking jessen. while i did like alex's brothers, it was common knowledge that jessen was my favorite, despite me being unable to use real sentences most of the time when i was around him.

kylie was shorter than the rest of us, but her curly, poofy black hair made up for her height. she was the one that had more fashion sense than the rest of us, knew about whatever styles were "in." currently she was just wearing a short-sleeved plain light-grey shirt with some jeans (which were rolled up at the bottom) and some white high-top converse. she also had one of those pearl-necklace things on, but she was pretty much always wearing that. kylie was mixed, like alex, but she was a lot lighter. if you didn't know she was mixed, you probably wouldn't suspect it.

meanwhile, ian was fixing his blonde hair (even though there was nothing wrong with it) and was wearing his black jackson high tennis team shirt with some basketball shorts and tennis shoes. honestly, i don't even know how they found clothes to fit him, considering he was so skinny. even the extra-small would probably fall off of him.

he had his arm wrapped around his shorter girlfriend, my best friend, farris. in my opinion, farris was the prettiest in the whole group, no matter how many times she called herself ugly or fat. she was just gorgeous, could probably even be a model one day. her long, dark brown hair was tied up in a ponytail today. she was wearing a pink short-sleeve with some jean shorts and her black toms. she smiled up at him, her hazel eyes connecting with his blue ones, and i wanted to barf.
