i must have died when i passed out because the face i was looking at when i opened my eyes was the face of an angel. he was beautiful. he was the only thing that i saw. he was — jessen?
"jessen?" i croaked, my voice hoarse and my eyes squinting as i attempted to sit up on the couch that i didn't know how i got on to. looking around as the black spots cleared from my eyes, i saw alex's living room around me. the only people in here were thomas (at the computer, and i think he yelled, "for narnia!"), jessen, who was giving me a relieved, but soft, smile, and myself.
"you're awake." he breathed out, as if he hadn't let out a breath in awhile. i could feel the relief radiating off of him as he took my hand gently and squeezed it, then quickly pulled it away as if he didn't mean to touch me.
"no shit, sherlock." i grumbled, finally getting in a comfortable position against the arm rest to the couch. he rolled his eyes at me, but i could see the joy sparkle in those hazel eyes that i could lose myself in.
alex came running down the stairs and around the corner, flying across the room with her slight afro flowing in the wind she created and landing next to me on the couch in what felt like seconds. this was surprising considering you didn't see alex run unless it was on the softball field. jessen looked like he had whiplash and quickly stepped away from where he had been hovering over me. he gave me an awkward half-smile and departed from the room, stepping out the door, most likely to go smoke.
"lydia!" she sighed, also relieved, and gave me a bone-crushing hug, which really wasn't helping with the whole 'recovery' thing. then came the questions.
"are you okay?"
"what happened?"
"were you too hot?"
"are you not drinking enough?"
"did you have too much coke?"
"are you—"
i cut her off, "wait, wait. that's it. i haven't drank anything in awhile. i've just been distracted what with the party and our doom and stuff. that's it. i just need some water."
alex shut up, nodding and getting up from her spot on the couch to grab me a water bottle out of the fridge. she sat back down when she was done, passing me the bottle, which i chugged.
"so, while you were out, guess what happened!" alex said excitedly. leave it to her to have exciting news when i was unconscious.
"what?"
"so, cai and i were texting, right? and he said he was having like a small get together thing tonight at his house and invited me! oh, and he said i could bring you. isn't that great!?" she told me, rattling on as if i didn't just pass out like 30 minutes ago.
"alex, you can go. do you hear that noise? it's netflix upstairs in our room calling my name. i'm gonna grab some water, head upstairs, and rewatch either arrow or how i met your mother. you go hangout with cai." i said, not feeling like a party considering i already had one to deal with tomorrow. everyone knew that's what 'small get together' meant. she pouted, but nodded, probably not wanting to fight me when i was tired, sick, and agitated. she was a wise girl, that one.
i shakily stood up from the couch and walked to the living room. i grabbed three or four water bottles from the fridge, some sour cream and onion chips, and headed upstairs to alex and i's room. soon i had on some sweatpants and a sports bra, laying on my bed and watching high school musical on netflix instead of the shows i had intended to watch.
since xander was probably out with a girl, i hadn't seen eli, alex was gone to cai's party, thomas had his headset in, and jessen had gone outside, i had high school musical turned all the way up and way dancing around alex's and i's room.
