I wake up from my nightmare. I kept tossing and turning the whole night, so I had a light sleep. It is finally dawn, so I get up and get dressed. By get dressed I mean just staying the same clothes I slept in. I walk into the kitchen and
have a light breakfast. After that, I casually stroll out my house like it was just another day of my life. But it wasn't. First of all, no one is up this early, so I am the only one who is walking. I look around. The town is small, and many of the houses need repair. Everything here is made, and there is no electricity except for the hospital. There are bigger cities that figured out how to live on after the war, but I like it here. Believe it or not, I also have a job. I guess it's not surprising, a 19 year old teen who needs money. I help make glass, which I guess is a good job? I don't know, I don't care. Anyways, I'm almost at the hospital. There are people up, but only medics and nurses . I can see the glowing lights outside. I hesitate for a few moments. How do I say why I'm here? "Oh, excuse me Miss, but I'm here to see the dead girl, who's body was most likely buried already?" Whatever. I walk in, trying to at as casual as possible. When open the door I see the same nurse from yesterday. I walk to the counter and ask as politely as I could, "Excuse me, I'm here to check on the girl I brought in yesterday." She stares at me for a second, a minute, an hour. It felt like eternity, maybe because I knew what she was going to say. She almost whispers, " The doctor will see you in room 14 for further discussion." This wasn't the answer I was looking for, but she looked at me as if she just saw her own death. Without saying a word, I move silently down the hall. The whole way down, she stares at me with frightened eyes. Cautiously, I enter room 14, the worst case scenario, is that I would be taken in custody for being accused of murder. Anyways, I sit in a chair in the middle of the room. This obviously wasn't a doctor's checkup office, it looked more like a questioning room in a police department. Right when I sit down, the medic comes in. His face was as emotionless as a rock. He sits down and sets a two pieces of paper in front of me. The medic folds his hands on the wooden table inbetween us. In a flat tone he asked,"Do you know shat happened to the girl?" I reply with a bitter remark, "She escaped from the testing site, and was struck with an axe." He ignores me and goes straight to his research papers,"Well, her name is Shay Barely, age 17, and is in critical condition from a blow to the head." He says. Shocked I ask,"She is alive?" "Yes... She just finish a surgery that would fix her skull, but I'm afraid that she will lose most of her past memories."he says."Okay" I reply, that wasn't too bad at least she was alive, right? He points to the papers he handed me. The fist one was an essay of Shay Barely and her injuries. The second paper I have to read three times over just to make sure it's real. It's been two years since this paper was pulled out, and I still can't believe I did it. It's a contract,I signed, saying that I would do anything to keep this town safe. "The contract."The medic starts,"She is one of them. You know what you need to do." Angrily I snap back,"You remembered what happen last time don't you? When they clawed my back out and left me for dead. When we agreed that I would never do it again. When I could finally live somewhat of a normal life!" Tears start to stain my face. "Remember when we agreed that I would no longer do this?" I whimper. He stares through me,"You promised,William, you promised you would keep us safe." I get up and start to dart to the door. Right before I leave the room, I scream,"I AM NO LONGER YOUR ASSASSIN!" And run, run far, far away.
