After waking to a siren, Lucas decided Maybe it would be best to crash at a friends. Riley's dad would flip, Farkle lived too high up, and it was too late to talk to either of them. Meanwhile, Maya had gotten off at two since it was slow and had taken a shower. She put her pajamas on and looked at her starving self in the mirror. It was too risky to go in the kitchen because he might have not left. Besides, there was never anything in it. She sighed and brushed her hair out, and taking off her shirt to be in a sports bra. She carefully cleaned the cuts from Jeff and from herself, as well as the ones on her thighs because she was wearing shorts. She wrapped her arm that got caught and turned off the light, laying down and feeling her tired muscles relax. There was a knock. She sighed and pushed herself back up, opening the window.
"Got no where to sleep."
"Go home."
"Told my mom I was sleeping at Farkles so she didn't get worried. She plopped back on her bed. He climbed in and shut the window, sitting next to her. His hands drifted to her stomach and bandages on them as she laid, curled to the side. They fell on her ribs that felt like they were pushing out of her skin. Maya squeezed her eyes tight, though he didn't see because it was dark. She hated loosing the weight so quickly.
"You're not okay." He whispered.
"Go to sleep." He laid down and wrapped his arm around his, pulling her to him.
"You've got a girlfriend, huckleberry. My best friend."
"I'm just hugging you."
"Good." They both knew that it was more and he traced his fingers over her stomach.
"I wish it was you." He whispered.
"You mean that?"
"You weren't supposed to hear it. But ya."
"It doesn't matter. It's you and Riley." she said, falling asleep.
