"Hey buddy, how are you?" asked Williams as Ryan entered his cabin with Mark for their pre scheduled meeting
"I am good Sir, you?" said Ryan, looking at the exquisite cabin. In contrast to his basic desk in internship floor, this cabin speaks of Wealth & Power. There was a huge daVinci on the wall behind Williams, on the side wall, there were pics of Williams with celebrities, including President Obama, His Highness Dalai Lama and leaders of other countries.
The table was a stylish beige, carved out of the best of woods available to mankind, paired with plush comfortable chairs.
Interestingly there were two life like figures of Lions, made up of silver, on both sides of Williams, there only purpose was to show off the power of their owner, which they were doing magnificently."So how did you find the office?" asked Williams
"Sir, I don't have words for it, it's beyond my imagination, loved every bit of it" replied Ryan
"Hope you like your examination too" chuckled Williams
"Yes, Mark told me about it, I hope it's next week" said Ryan, visibly uncomfortable on the talks of the examination
"Every year we gets thousands of resumes for Internship, they go through a written test and we hire two hundred interns every year, after six months of rigorous training, they have to pass six examinations, each happens monthly, after every examination we fire the worst performers and keep the others, at the end of these six exams, we hire ten best performers, the Kings who get the honour to move up to Trading Floor" completed Williams
Ryan was in awe of the whole process, he was worried but decided to maintain the silence.
"That's pretty basic and boring, but where the things get interesting is, their training is almost over and first examination is next week, and you will have to compete with them in this examination and will be judged on same ground. We will be firing half of the interns at the end of next week and I want you to be in the other hundred, i am betting on you," said Williams
Ryan had a lump in his throat and with much difficulty he uttered "Okay, but what's the examination all about?"
"Every intern will get ten thousand dollars and a stock trading account, do your best and generate the most profits from the capital. Top hundred interns will stay and rest will be laid off" said Williams
"Okay Sir, I will try my best" said Ryan
"Great, be in touch with Mark if you need any help" said Williams and picked up his mobile signalling that the meeting is now over,
Ryan and Mark rose from the chairs and left the room.Ryan returned to his desk and looked at the manual and thought "too much to learn, too less time"
Ryan has always been a pressure worker, the guy who works the best under pressure conditions.
He knew what Williams is expecting from him is daunting, but then that's the fun. If Williams is betting on him, then he needs to live upto the expectations.
With that thought, he started reading the manual."How was your day Buddy" asked Ted as Ryan enters the dorm
"Not sure what to say, it was both awesome and fucked up" replied Ryan
"What the fuck does that means?" asked Ted
"I got the internship and will be getting a stipend of $3000 per month which is awesome, but I will have an exam next week and if I failed then I will be laid off" said Ryan
"Three grands per month? That's way more than what we are making here in your make shift casino.. You got lucky man!" said a jealous Ted
"Yeah but if I didn't passed the exam next week, then it will be world's smallest internship" replied Ryan and narrated the meeting with Williams
"Holy Shit, you gotta slog man" said Ted
"I fucking know that" replied Ryan
"We also have our party over this weekend" said Ted
"Ohh I completely forget about it, considering the current situation I think it's better to pass it on for now" said Ryan
"Shut up you asshole, it's about my reputation in campus. I will do all the arrangements, you just bring your lazy ass on time" said Ted
"Okay, have you sent the invitations?" Asked Ryan
"I will personally invite your Nafisa, don't worry, you better concentrate on your test" said Ted and started scribbling something on the notepad
