Chapter 5

Emerald Eyes

Nights grew longer and days grew colder as the silent cloak of winter began to creep slowly across the country, leaving a white carpet of frost on the ground every morning. You wouldn't believe it was still only October, late October, but October none the less. The Pack had now fully opened up and the rest of year 9 had started to treat Raph with the same level of respect as them. A fact that had not been over-looked by his sister, who was desperate to know why The Pack was so popular in the first place, "I have no idea Sis" was his response whenever she began to ask about his new friend group.

Abby yawned and blinked her eyes several times, resting her head on a bag that was left on the table, "Abby, we all know your tired but I sort of need that at the moment." Eve was half-heatedly tugging at the shoulder strap of the dark purple bag that Abby's curly hair was covering. "Go away, I'm tired."

"Yes I know, but could you just lift your head?"

"No..." Then the mask of hair added "I'm too tired"

"I'm not going to get that bag back am I?"

"No." Eve dropped the strap and looked helplessly towards the Pack boys, all of which shrugged their shoulders. Autumn however took hold of the bag and yanked it out from underneath Abby's head, "One bag, slightly Abby infested but still usable." she handed it to Eve, "Oi!" Abby lifted her head and looked with a fake mask of indignation at her friend.

There was a sudden buzz of vibration from somewhere underneath the table, it was loud enough for thier form teacher, who was at the moment handing out some letter that was, allegedly, very important and had to be handed in by tomorrow, to hear, he looked in the direction of the Pack.

"Not again... Is this the 3rd or the 4th time this week James? I'm starting to be able to recognize your ringtone." The mass of curly hair flew up from the table and quickly added "It's the 4th time sir."

"Thank you... Abby... that was meant to be a rhetorical question. I'm sorry James, could I have that phone please. As it's the 4th time this week, you can collect it on Friday."

"But sir that's 2 day away!" James was looking like someone had just announced that Liverpool had been beaten 24-0 by a sponge. "He can't survive that long without it!" Daniel faked a faint on the other side of the room, causing a lot of the class to dissolve into fits of half-haltered giggles."James will survive perfectly well thank you Daniel, you however may not survive a trip to the head of year. Out you go, I'm not in the mood this morning."

After the murmurs of 'owned' had stopped and James had handed over the brand new BlackBerry Z10 with all the reluctance of a starving person handing a three course meal over, and had left it with the teacher. The pack turned to discussing plans for after school.

It had all started a week ago when Abby had suddenly remembered it was Catherine's birthday on November the 13, and had demanded that they do something to celebrate. "You can't just settle for the anything on your 13th birthday!! I mean, it's like being 18 isn't it?!"

"Except you 13" Autumn had added sarcastically "Exactly! Tell you what, who don't we go into town, it won't take us long to walk there after school AND there's a bus that takes us back to Y Dreadden Wen." At this point Catherine and Eve had been caught up in the excitement "We can stay at my house, its next to the bus stop!"

"No thanks! I'd rather go home and play Fifa." Tom gave a small smile; all the girls looked horrified "You know I didn't mean you 5."

"Can we ask Kia? She'd love to come!" and so on, and so on, and so on.... for quite a long time....
