When Gajeel woke, the first thing he registered was that there was a ceiling above him, a smooth, flat white ceiling. Then he noticed the warm pressure on his side, and looked down. Levy was lying against him, her arms folded over his torso, with her head resting against her forearms. Her eyes were closed and she was breathing deeply, letting out the occasional cute, snuffling snore in her sleep.

It was only after staring at Levy for a good few minutes that Gajeel realized with an odd swooping sensation in his gut that he was normal. He had skin instead of scales, proper feet, nails instead of claws, his horns were gone, and his ears were human ears. He smiled hesitantly, and stared down at Levy again, feeling his chest swell with happiness. He knew what must have happened. There was only one way for one of his race to become human, and it so rarely happened that it was as good as myth.

Levy stirred, yawned widely, then blinked her eyes open. She raised her head a little and looked at him. A smile burst across her face as she saw that he was awake. "Gajeel! You're awake!" She gasped in delight, and flung her arms around his neck, landing awkwardly on his chest.

"Yeah." He agreed, his voice still rough and low, but not quite as gravely as before. He lifted his arms and returned the embrace, reveling in how different the action felt now that he had skin instead of scales.

"How are you feeling?" Levy asked, lifting her head up to look him right in the eyes, propping herself on her elbows.

Gajeel smiled at her, showing off just a hint of pointed teeth. "I feel amazing." He breathed, his voice giving away just how happy he was. Levy beamed at him, and Gajeel, shifted a hand to the back of her head, pulling her down into a deep kiss. If Levy was surprised by this bold move, she didn't show it, kissing back almost immediately and refusing to let Gajeel dominate the kiss. When their lungs started to ache, they broke apart, and Gajeel saw that Levy was blushing. "Thank you." He murmured.

"You're welcome..." Levy mumbled quietly, frowning quizzically at Gajeel.

With a chuckle that sounded more like a quiet rumbling in his chest, Gajeel shifted to nuzzle her cheek, closing his eyes to savor the sensations. "And, by the way..." He murmured in a low, quiet voice. Levy hummed in curiosity, relaxing even more against him. "Love you too."

Levy jerked back, staring at him in shock. Tentatively, she smiled, and when Gajeel grinned back at her, she beamed. "I thought you were unconscious!" She said with a little laugh.

"I was." Gajeel told her, blushing faintly.

"But-..." Levy frowned.

"Only way I could have ended up normal was if someone said that they loved me in my presence." He explained. "Somehow, I didn't think it was that blonde guy." He added, and was rewarded with Levy's laughter. She relaxed against him again, still chuckling. They lay there in silence for a while, each thinking their own thoughts, until Gajeel spoke up again. "So... what happens now?" He asked, a little hesitantly. Levy looked up at him and beamed, answering with a casual one-shouldered shrug.

"Whatever we want."
