As Maine smoothed out the creases of the black, cocktail dress she was wearing, she couldn't help but feel nervous.

Tonight, she was going to tell Jake about her internship at The Ritz Carlton Hotel and that this time, she was really keen on leaving.

Maine had originally planned to meet up with Jake earlier that day, but as usual, the latter couldn't make it because he was too busy meeting with their company's Singaporean guests the entire day.

Wanting to make it up to her, Jake had invited Maine to their company's event at Makati Shangri-La, and the latter had accepted the invitation.

She was leaving in two days, and though she knew that this wasn't perfect time to tell Jake about everything that was happening her life, she had to. He's still her boyfriend, after all, and he deserved to know.

Maine drank a glass of white wine to shake off her nervousness.

"Nicomaine, kaya mo 'to." She uttered to herself as beads of sweat ran down her nape.

Just when she was about to ask for another glass, she felt a hand on the small of her waist.

"Hi, babe." Jake said, planting a kiss on her cheek.

Maine laughed awkwardly as her boyfriend was now standing in front of her, his overly attractive, brown eyes meeting hers.

"Hi.." She said, putting down the wine glass she was holding.

"I'm so glad you made it, babe." Jake held her hand. "Tara, ipapakilala kita kina Mr. at Mrs. Chang, yung Singaporean investors namin?" He added, leading her towards a certain area in the ballroom.

Before they could reach the Singaporean investors, Maine had stopped dead on her tracks. She didn't have the time to rub elbows with the investors Jake wanted her to meet. They needed to talk now.

"Sandali lang, babe." Maine said. "May sasabihin sana ako sa'yo eh."

Jake frowned in reply.

"Hindi ba pwedeng mamaya nalang 'yan?"

"Hindi."

Jake was taken aback with the way Maine had answered him. Usually, she'd just go with the flow whenever they were together, but there was a certain intensity in her eyes that signaled that what she was going to tell him was very important.

"Sige, labas muna tayo.." Jake nodded, still holding Maine's hand as they exited the ballroom.

The latter could feel her heartbeat race the moment they walked towards the pool area. It was a good thing that there weren't a lot of guests out tonight, so they could really talk.

"So.. ano ba yang sasabihin mo? Mukhang importante ah.." Jake said, gently letting go of her hand.

He didn't know why he suddenly felt so nervous as well. He thought that this was going to be "just one of those nights", but he had this gut feeling that something wasn't right.

"Alam mo," Maine cleared her throat. "Hindi ko talaga alam kung saan ako magsisimula eh." She added. "Ang gulo gulo na kasi ng isip ko."

Jake held Maine's hand, in an attempt to comfort her.

"What's bothering you, babe? Ilang araw ka ng hindi mapakali.."

"Aalis ako.. papuntang States." Maine said.

Jake's forehead creased in reply.

"What do you mean 'aalis ka papuntang States'?" He asked. "What's going on?"
