After sensing that there must've been something going on between Alden and Maine, Jake did everything in his power so that the both of them would not have time together at all. This was supposed to be his weekend with Maine, after all, and he was standing by what he had said earlier that Alden was just the "plus one" here.
Jake hogged all of Maine's time and attention that afternoon by talking to her as if there was no tomorrow, taking her on rides that could only accommodate two people and making everyone know, especially Alden, that Maine was his girlfriend by either wrapping his arms around her from time to time or holding her hands so tightly it actually hurt Maine.
Jake was swimming delightfully in Alden's misery, and it showed in his smiles.. in his smirks.. and Maine absolutely hated it. But more than anything, Maine hated herself for dragging Alden into her crappy love life.
What was she even thinking when she made that condition of having Alden tag along with them to Coney Island? That condition of hers was supposed to piss Jake off and make him feel that he was no longer as important to her as he was before, but unfortunately, the condition had clearly backfired on her and she had to do something about it.
"Punta muna ako ng cr." Maine said casually. "Kanina pa ako naiihi eh."
"Gusto mo bang samahan kita?" Jake asked.
"Jake, pwede ba." Maine said, her tone as pissed as ever. "Buong araw na tayong magkasama. Pwede mo ba akong bigyan ng kahit konting space? Mahiya ka naman sa gall bladder ko. Parang kanina pa to puputok eh." She added.
"Alright," Jake nodded. "But are you sure you know where the comfort room is? You might get lost."
Maine rolled her eyes.
"Ano bang akala mo sa 'kin? 1 year old na hindi marunong magtanong-tanong kung saang banda ang CR?" She said sarcastically. "And I won't get lost. Kaya nga ako may cellphone at mobile data, di ba?" She added.
"Jake, please. Just stop being so clingy and give me some space." Maine said, before walking out on both Alden and Jake.
She had absolutely no idea where her feet was going to take her, but she only had two things in mind right now. One, get away from Jake, and two, find a way to talk and spend time with Alden before they were scheduled to have dinner with Jake's family friend.
When Maine was far enough to be seen by either Alden and Jake, she found an empty and isolated shack near the beach. Upon noticing that there wasn't a lot of people in the area, she got inside and texted Alden.
"Nandito ako sa shack malapit sa cotton candy stand. Puntahan mo ko dito. Dali"
In just a few seconds, Alden received the message and started walking away from Jake.
"Hoy, saan ka pupunta?" Jake asked. "Wag mong sabihing naiihi ka rin."
"Ano bang pakialam mo?" Alden responded. "Si Maine naman ang hinihintay mo, di ba? Eh di, maghintay ka." He added. "And don't even attempt to follow me. You've done enough damage for today. Baka hindi ako makapagpigil at masuntok na talaga kita."
Jake's fists balled up as Alden walked away.
"Just walk away, Alden. Just walk away." He muttered.
As soon as Alden had arrived at the shack Maine was referring to, he couldn't help but sigh in relief. Finally, it was just the both of them now. There wasn't any sight of a Jake Ejercito who would either ruin or interfere with whatever they were doing.
"Hindi ako na-inform na ganito na pala ang itsura ng ladies' comfort room ngayon." Alden joked around. "Ayos ah, wala ng toilet. Diretso nalang sa buhangin."
As Alden said this, a smile spread across Maine's face.. her first for the day.
"Alden.. sorry talaga ha." Maine said, the smile on her face now slowly disappearing. "I'm sorry for dragging you into all of this. I was selfish thinking that, maybe, having you tag along would make things easier for me, but seeing you suffer because of Jake and I made me realize how stupid it was for me to allow all this crap to be thrown at you." She added.
"Kung gusto mo ng umalis, okay lang sa 'kin. I'll understand." Maine said. "Babalitaan nalang kita about how things will go between Jake and I pagbalik ko sa loft."
"Maine," Alden said as he held both of her hands. "You don't need to say sorry, because before we went here, tinanong mo naman ako kung gusto kong sumama at pumayag naman ako." He added.
"Kahit na alam kong masasaktan ako sa tuwing makikita kong magkasama kayo ni Jake, handa akong tiisin ang lahat ng 'yun dahil mahal kita." Alden said. "Oo, Nicomaine Mendoza, mahal kita. Mahal na mahal kita, kung kaya't ginagawa ko ang lahat ng 'to."
"Mas pipiliin ko pang nandito ako sa Coney Island na nasasaktan kaysa sa maiwan sa loft na di makatulog at di mapakali sa kakaisip sa kalagayan mo kay Jake." He added. "Parang hindi talaga mapagkakatiwalaan ang lalaking 'yun eh."
Maine looked into Alden's warm, brown eyes and smiled.
"Patingin nga ng di makatulog at di mapakali." She teased.
Alden wrapped his arms around Maine's waist and gently pulled her closer to him.
"Sige, magbiro ka pa ng ganyan. Hahalikan na talaga kita." Alden said, his voice deep and alluring.
"Eh di sige," Maine whispered seductively as she put her lips slightly above Alden's. "Halikan mo ko. Hindi ako papalag.. promise."
The sexual tension between Maine and Alden was just too strong for them to ignore, and so they kissed; hungrily, passionately.
As Alden pinned Maine against a wall, kissing not only her lips, but her neck and her chest, thoughts of her and Jake started to fill his mind. What is it really right for him to be making out with a girl who was still committed? Was it really right for him to put himself in a situation where it seemed as if he was the bad guy?
Alden tried to silence his bothering thoughts by bringing himself back to where he was and what he was doing right now. His shirt was already on the sand and he was starting to unbutton Maine's sleeveless, white shirt.
Just as he was about to undo the clasp of her bra, Alden stopped.
"I.. I can't do this." He finally said.
"What?" Maine's eyebrows furrowed as she tried catching her breath. "What do you mean you can't do this?" She asked.
Alden sighed as he started buttoning Maine's shirt again.
"Break up with Jake first." He said, caressing her face, feeling deeply sorry that he had to ruin the mood. But.. it was the right thing to do. Alden knew that it was the right thing to do.
"If we're going to do this, let's make sure na naayos na ang lahat. Alam kong matagal ka ng hindi masaya kay Jake, but you're still committed to him at kinokonsensiya na ko." He said. "I don't want to be the bad guy in this story, Maine. I want to be your prince charming.. the one who saves you."
"You're right." Maine agreed. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have-"
Alden kissed her one last time.
"Just break up with him, Maine. Just break up with him." He said. "Once you do, babawi ako sa'yo. Babawi talaga ako sa'yo."
Maine sighed and nodded sadly.
"Okay." was the only thing she managed to say.
