One side burnt up, the other shriveled up and the last one cut in half.

Naruto whooped in joy,"I got three! Fire, Water and Wind!"

Menma grinned as well, training Naruto was essential to his plan. He congratulated Naruto and showed him the next jutsu he was going to learn.

"Come here," Menma beckoned Naruto towards him. Menma conducted hand signs and inhaled sharply before breathing out a large ball of fire.

"Fireball Jutsu!" As the fireball sped towards the trees, Menma sucked in air one more time and let out a large gush of wind. The wind expanded the fireball and thrusted it forward.

Naruto widened his eyes and grinned,"Are you gonna teach me that?!"

"Yes," Menma said, nodding,"But in order to learn it, you have to create space in your lungs."

Naruto raised an eyebrow,"How do I do that?"

Menma sighed, this boy had too many questions,"You have to submerge yourself in water and practice holding your breath to create more space in your lungs. The more you practice, the better you can run, swim, and preform air Jutsu without wasting chakra.

In fact, your predecessors learned to naturally have air flow come easily, and so they didn't have to waste chakra doing air Jutsu."

Naruto listened, fascinated. At the academy, they were taught that chakra is essential to doing everything, from running up walls to every type of Jutsu. Yet, here he was, being told the opposite.

Menma scratched his head,"But you can't learn here. There's no river big enough in Konoha."

"Then where will we go?"

"To the spring caves hidden deep in Sunagakure. It's known for being the first desert village to be habitable, but no one knows really what the secret is for their immense wealth. That's where the spring caves come in. As their names suggest, they only hold the freshest water and the ripest fruit in spring."

Naruto frowned,"But it's not spring yet!"

Menma nodded.

"Then I'll have to train you until it is."
