The room was dark, tinted a light blue from the morning sun. Frisk was still fast asleep when her mother, Toriel, quietly opened the door and entered the room. The motherly queen sat down on the bed beside her and rubbed her back comfortingly.
"Time to wake up, little one." She called gently. Frisk's eyes opened slowly, and she yawned, stretching out before sitting up. She smiled.
"Morning, Mom." She replied sleepily. Toriel returned the smile, standing up again.
"Chara and Asriel are already in the kitchen, they've left some breakfast out for you." She informed her. Then she smiled thoughtfully and brushed Frisk's hair into place. "It's still unbelievable, what you managed to do... And I don't know how to thank you." Frisk grinned.
"That's okay. I don't need a thanks. The fact that we're finally a family is enough." The child declared. Toriel laughed slightly in agreement.
"You're too good, Frisk." She told her as she headed towards the door. "I have to run some errands, so I won't be back until late. Chara and Asriel have a fun day planned out, so if you need anything, ask them or text me, alright?" She instructed. Frisk nodded and told Toriel goodbye as she left the room. Frisk sighed and looked out the window. From her window, she could see down the street, and saw Undyne walking down her driveway to get the mail. She heard birds singing as they flew from branch to branch. In the house next to her, she saw Nabstablook at work at his computer, headphones on, lost in concentration. Frisk smiled. Everything's fine, she told herself, it was all just a dream...
Chara and Asriel were sitting at the kitchen table, laughing about something one of them had said, when Frisk came in the room. Chara smiled at her.
"Morning, Sleeping Beauty." She teased. Frisk rolled her eyes at her playfully as she sat down at the table. Asriel furrowed his eyebrows.
"Who's 'Sleeping Beauty?'" He wondered as Chara slid a plate of buttered toast and a cup of orange juice over to Frisk. The two humans giggled at each other.
"It's a story for another time." Chara decided, nudging her brother in a teasing way. The monster prince shrugged it off and sat up in his chair.
"Alright, Frisk, eat up, cause we've got a fun day planned!" He announced, exchanging a glance with Chara.
"First, we're going to the park. We'll hang out there for an hour or two, then we'll go down the street and grab some ice cream at the new shop." Chara began. Asriel interrupted her.
"One of the first human shops in our neighborhood!" He added. Chara rolled her eyes at him but smiled anyway. She continued with her plan.
"Then, we were thinking of just," she shrugged, "hanging out? We know all about your friends, but they don't know us." She pointed out. Frisk laughed slightly. Chara made a face.
"Okay, that sounded a bit creepy, but I meant that I was in your head, and..." She trailed off, laughing as well. "I'm not making it any better." She admitted once she saw that both Asriel and Frisk were laughing. "You guys know what I meant." She exclaimed, unable to keep the grin off her face.
"Come on, let's clean up the kitchen, then we'll head to the park." Asriel suggested as he stood up, the remnants of laughter still on his face. Frisk nodded in agreement and got up as well. She collected the plates and put them in the sink. Asriel put away the food while Chara washed the dishes, putting them in the dishwasher. Frisk took a wet rag and was cleaning the counters, humming happily as she worked.
