My eyes flutter open and all I hear is the sound of birds.

A loud sign escapes my lips. All of this feels so surreal, I never thought that life could feel like this ever again. Normal. I throw on some jeans, brown boots and an over sized flannel that hangs off one of my shoulders. Before the whole 'walking dead people' thing started I was quite fashionable. Crop tops and make up and 90's inspired fashion, all of that was my forte, but I didn't have time for it anymore; it was all about surviving now.

Quickly I head down stairs and brush my teeth in the bath room. Soon, the smell of eggs and bacon reach my nose so I found my way down to the kitchen.
"Morning Violet." Carl says sitting at the kitchen table across from Alyssa and Rick. "Hello, I'm carol." A lady turns away from the stove and offers me a plate.
"I'm Violet. Thanks for the breakfast." I smile at her. But as so as I go to sit down Alyssa hurries out of her chair to sit next to Carl.
I make eye contact with Carl and he sends me an almost apologetic look. Alyssa glares at me, making this little moment an unnecessary ordeal. She moves her hand on Carl's leg possessively, and like I said before, I don't do teen drama.
"You know what, I think I'm just gonna eat on the porch. Thanks again carol." I head outside and sit on the railing, letting my feet dangle from the edge. When all the sudden it hit me. At any moment I could be dead and I need to remember that. People in here are weak and that's not going to happen to me. I ponder and shuffle the eggs around my plate when Carl walks out on to the porch.
"Hey..." Carl climbed over the railing and sat next to me.

"Is she like that all of the time?" I look over at him
"No, she's usually not like this, unless Beth is around." My eyebrows knit together in confusion "Who's Beth?" "Just some girl in the group, she's cool but she's not my type." I nod lightly. "Violet, I'm really sorry about Alyssa, honestly I think she's just jealous."
I scoff "Why would she be jealous of me?" In that moment, carl looks at me wholeheartedly, but also as if I was blind and I wasn't seeing something that was so obvious.

"Because you're beautiful."

His eyes trace down to my lips and a shiver ran down my spine.
"Violet."Ron calls my name from the front of the lawn assertively. Carl and I break eye contact so fast i could've had whiplash. "Hey... Ron." I drop down from the railing and my feet hit the grass. "What the hell are you wearing?" He asks as i walk towards him. "Clothes, would you prefer for me to walk around here with out them?" I say facetiously and Carl chuckles to himself.
"I mean why are you dressed like that? It's like how you used to dress before."

"Is there a problem with that?" I raise my brow and cross my arms. "Yes. You're not that person anymore." Ron moves closer to me.
"Let's say a herd some how got in-"

"they wouldn't." Carl drops down from the railing as well.
"let's say they did." Ron glares at Carl "would you be able to run in those shoes?" I look down at my feet.
He was right.
"I just wanted to wear this..." I state quietly and play with the sleeves of the red dingy flannel. I was beginning to feel very insecure.
"It's not about what you want anymore Violet, surviving is the only thing that matters."
He looks at me disappointed.

And I felt like I'd let my dad down.

"It's just an outfit, she can wear what ever she wants." Carl looks at Ron with a hint of irritation
"You should stay out of it, I'm her boyfriend not you." Ron steps closer in Carl's direction
"Well maybe I wouldn't have to get involved if you weren't such a dick head to your girlfriend." And you knew that's what would set Ron off.

Shits gonna go dowwwnn next chapter.
