Link's POV
I awoke to a horrible headache. It felt like someone was jackhammering my head. I opened my eyes and looked around. I was in an apartment, lying on a couch with a now lukewarm icepack on my forehead and several bandages applied to my face. I tried to get up, but I flopped back down. I guess I was still too weak. I lied there, not knowing where I was or why I was there. Everything was pretty fuzzy. I slowly started to remember running. I think I was mugged and then someone helped me. I couldn't really remember past that. A young woman with very long blonde hair walked into the room. She was holding a first aid kit.
"Oh my goodness, you're awake!" she said and ran to my side. She knelt down beside me.
"W-what happened? Where am I? " I asked. My voice was very weak.
Trixie's POV"You're in my apartment. I'm Trixie. I was walking to my car, when I found you lying by an alleyway. You were badly beaten up, so I helped you to my car and took you here. You've been out cold for hours! How are you feeling? Should I take you to the hospital?" I asked.
"I-I'm fine. I don't need to go to the hospital. Thank you for your hospitality, but I really need to go," he said and started getting up. I quickly pushed him back down.
"Whoa, whoa, you're not going anywhere, sir. You are in no condition to. You need to rest. What's your name?" I asked and sat down at the other end of the couch.
"L-Link, Link Neal. Thank you for all of your help," he said and smiled.
"You're welcome. So, what happened? I mean, if you don't want to tell that's fine," I said quickly.
"No, no, I'll tell you. I can't quite remember, but I think I was mugged. Everything is so fuzzy," he said and rubbed his forehead.
I glanced down at his hand and saw a wedding ring. I decided to test his memory. He could have a concussion and if that was the case, I'd take him to the hospital no matter how much he complained.
"Are you married?" I asked.
"Y-yes," he said.
"Good, that's right. I want to test your memory. Do you have any children, and if so, what are their names?"
"I do, Lily, Lincoln, and Lando."
"Is Lando named after Lando from Star Wars?" I asked excitedly.
He laughed, "Yes, he is."
"Awesome. Let's see, um... how old are you?"
"I'm thirty-seven."
"What city do you live in?"
"Burbank."
"Wow, that's pretty far. Do you know where you are now?"
"No.""You're in Phoenix, Arizona. Did you forget that?"
"Whoa, that is far! Um... I didn't know where I was in the first place," he said and turned away.
"Are you okay? I mean, like, are you in trouble? Wait, you're not a convict, are you?" I asked, beginning to get scared.
"No, no, I'm not a convict. I," he sighed," I needed to get away from my loved ones. I can't really tell you why, but it was for their own good. I need to keep them safe and the best way to do that is for me to stay away," he said and wiped a tear from his eye.
"I'm so sorry, Link. I'm not in danger now, am I?"
"You shouldn't be. If I had any sort of feeling you would be, I would have insisted you let me leave, but I think you'll be okay," he said.
He started silently crying into his hands. I gently placed my hand on his back. He looked up at me and smiled sadly.
"Thanks," he whispered.
"Of course. Are you hungry? Can I get you anything? Or do you want to just sleep? This couch folds out into a bed. You can stay there for now," I said and got up.
"I'm not really that hungry, but thanks. What time is it?" he asked.
"It's 2:38 PM. You were unconscious for quite a while. I was beginning to worry you would never wake up."
"If you don't mind, I'd like to sleep," he said and slowly started to stand up.
"Not at all. I took today off from work, so I could tend to you, so I'll be here if you need me," I said and smiled again.
He seemed like a really nice guy, but he was in some sort of trouble, and I was going to help him. I pulled the cushions off the couch and pulled out the bed. I grabbed some blankets and sheets and made the bed look nice. He got under the covers and I turned out the lights.
"Night, Link."
"Good night, Trixie. Thank you for everything," he said and I went to my room.
I pulled out my diary and began to write about everything that's happened today.
Link's POV
How in the world did I end up in Phoenix? Was this some other side effect of being part vampire? Trixie is a very sweet girl, but I'm afraid she is in danger. I'm a threat to every person around me. Who knows when I'll snap again? I was very grateful for her help, but I knew I'd have to leave soon. I couldn't hurt her. Never again would I hurt another human. I felt horrible, I had really hurt Christy. My own wife! My one true love! I was a horrid husband. I didn't deserve her. Tears filled my eyes again and I cried myself to sleep.
Rhett's POV
Bags were under my eyes and my hair was a mess. I've been searching all over California for Link. I hadn't sleep in over thirty hours. I needed to find him. For Christy, for his children, for me.
"Link, wherever you are, I will find you and bring you home. Your family needs you, the mythical beasts need you, I need you. I won't give up until I've found you!"
