Song for the Chapter: September by Daughtry
Tobias' POV
The next round of initiates will be here in two days, and I just submitted my job finalization. Lauren, Christina and Tris have all been constantly nagging me to take a leadership position. Both Lauren and Christina know- but I thought it would be a great surprise for Tris. But little does Tris know that there's an extra leadership slot open for her- if she wants it. I just got off the phone with Lauren- who wanted to discuss the initiation roles and plan for this year. I hear a slight knock on the bedroom door- Tris. "Come on in babe, I just got off the phone." Tris slips through our door quietly and I look up to her, close my laptop and set on the ground next to the bed. "Hey baby. How was the Pit?"
"Eh. It was really loud, and busy like usual. I guess everyone is trying to have some fun before we get serious into training again in the next couple of days. I left because I really don't want the headache and I need some quiet to think. My job finalization is due by midnight- I gotta figure out what I am doing." I smile and can't help myself. I get of the bed and pull her into my arms. "Everything's going to go fine. I'll be right back- I am going to get a drink from the station downstairs. Do you want anything?" "Sure. Lemonade or iced tea. Something cold. I really don't care." Tris smiles and I smile back. "A bottle of I really don't care it is then." I say and head downstairs to get our drinks.
Tris' POV
A little bit earlier....
Looking back now, after all that has happened sometimes I wonder how I managed to survive. You never know who a person really is until you see their true perspective and motives. Those you think are harmless and your friends may eventually turn on you and then cause you pain. But I guess that's the Abnegation in me. My eyes tear up, remembering Al, and Will. I hold back the tears and take a deep breath. I know I shouldn't feel like their deaths were my fault, but I still do. I guess I also shouldn't worry about the past and let it consume me, and just look towards the future.
Nearly two years ago, I was the first jumper and landed among the initiation net. I went through my training as a 'rogue' divergent according to Jeanine and her followers, and ended up earning the top rank in my class- just like Tobias did years before. The next round of initiates arrives in two days. My final occupation decision is due by midnight- and I have no idea what I should do. I would really love to have a position that had the same or similar schedules to Tobias', and I have been trying to convince him to take the head leadership position. He probably just signed up to do work for intelligence again, which I know I can't apply for- it takes extra training in data and operations which I really don't want to do unless I have to.
I clamber my way through the busy, and loud buzzing Pit and head up to the residence hall. I walk down the hall and find Tobias and me's apartment and jiggle the key into the lock and open the door, let myself in and close the door gently behind me and then walk to our bedroom. The door's closed, so I knock- "Come on in babe, I just got off the phone," Tobias says. Why was he on the phone? Intel never is allowed to transfer information over an insecure connection like that. I let myself in, and Tobias is sitting on the bed, just closing a laptop and putting it on the ground next to the bed and he looks up to me. "Hey baby. How was the Pit?" Tobias asks.
"Eh. It was really loud, and busy like usual. I guess everyone is trying to have some fun before we get serious into training again in the next couple of days. I left because I really don't want the headache and I need some quiet to think. My job finalization is due by midnight- I gotta figure out what I am doing." I explain and Tobias smiles and gets up and pulls me into his chest. "Everything's going to go fine. I'll be right back- I am going to get a drink. Do you want anything?" "Sure. Lemonade or iced tea. Something cold. I really don't care." I smile and Tobias smiles. "A glass of I really don't care it is then." I roll my eyes as he goes to get drinks downstairs.
