*Aubrey's P.O.V*

I stared at myself in the mirror. I was dressed ( http://www.polyvore.com/lets_start_over/set?id=133027005 ) simply. I had an interview for a job at a bookstore that was around the block from Kayla's apartment. I left the bedroom and closed the door behind me. It was around nine p.m. and Kayla was sitting in her robe at the bar, drinking coffee.

"Goodmorning sunshine," I said. She laughed.

"Yeah, you too darling." I opened her fridge, which was filled with organic juice and kale and shit like that. Of course.

"Um..... question?"

"Hm?" she said, looking up.

"Where's the food?"

"In the fridge," she said simply.

"No, no, no, no. That's a bag of yard work in there," I said. She laughed. She stood up and shoved me.

"Shut up. Now get out and go to your interview," she joked.

"Ok." I grabbed my purse and left the apartment. I loved Chicago. The air was crisp and it was such a different atmosphere. There were cute little shops and it was cold and everyone had to carry umbrellas. And it was wonderful. Being away from home was just what I needed. I rounded a corner and stared at my white vans against the wet sidewalk. Finally, I reached the bookstore. I entered the bookstore. The shelves were stuffed with books, so many I thought they might burst. There were a few comfy chairs for reading. I walked up to the counter.

There was a boy.

I'm just going to say it, he was hot. He had spiky hair and deep brown eyes. He typed a few numbers in the machine and looked at me.

"What can I do for you?" He asked. Oh my god. His VOICE.

"Um, I have an interview scheduled? Aubrey Johnson?" I said nervously. He shuffled a few papers and looked at me with his cute boyish smirk.

"Right in there,"he gestured to a wooden door behind him. I walked around the corner and opened the door. Inside, there were a few chairs and a coffee table. A women sat in on of the chairs.

"You must be Aubrey." she said. I nodded.

"Yeah, it is. You must be Mrs. Martin?" I replied.

"Oh, please." she said, waving a hand in the air and getting up. "Call me Sandy." She shook my hand and gestured to the other chair. I sat.

"So let's dice in, shall we? What is your primary reason for wanting to work here?" she asked.

"Um, well, to be honest, I just really need some money to help my friend pay rent. I mean, until I get my own place." She nodded and quickly wrote something down.

"Do you have any experience?" she asked.

"I had an internship at In and Out last summer. But other than that, no." I replied simply.

"Alright, I think I have all I need to know," she said.

"Really?" I said, getting nervous. She hated me. There was no way I could get a job now. "You don't want to know anything else?"

"Nope. I base most of my decisions off of the vibes I get from you." Um. okay. "And I think you seem like a really sweet girl. You start tomorrow." That was quick.

"Seriously? Um, wow, thanks."

She nodded. "You can let yourself out, right?" I nodded and took small footsteps to the door. She seemed really nice. A little weird too, but nice I opened the door and closed if behind me. The counter boy was still there.

"Hey," he said.

"Hey."

"How did it go?"

"Good. I start tomorrow."

"Congratulations," he said, looking up at me. Oh god. My hands were bricks, like always. "I guess that means I'll be seeing more of you," he said.

I shrugged, "yep."

"What's your name?"

"Aubrey."

"I'm Carter ." Carter. Cameron. Carter. Cameron. Shut up, mind.

I smiled. "Well, I gotta go. See you tomorrow."

"Bye, beautiful." I left the bookstore. No matter how I tried, I couldn't stop thinking about Carter. He was so cute. But wait. Ashton. Was I cheating on him? We're we even in a relationship where it was possible for me to cheat on him? Ew. Thoughts. I used the key that Kayla had given me to let myself into her apartment. She had already left for work so I just sat at the bar and drummed my fingertips onto the countertop. I realized suddenly, I couldn't stay in Chicago forever. I didn't have a plan. I didn't know what I was going to do or how I was going to pay for if. I knew that sooner or later, I was going to have to go home.

~The next day~

I practically flew out of bed the next morning. I showered and got dressed ( http://www.polyvore.com/silence/set?id=133826294 ) in an hour and then did my hair and makeup. Kayla was sitting at the bar, drinking her daily coffee as usual. I helped myself to some coffee and flew out the door.

"Well good morning to you, too?" Kayla yelled as I left. I chuckled to myself on the walk to the bookstore. A feeling of excitement brewed in the pit of my stomach. I opened the door to the bookstore, the jingle of the bell ringing in my ears. Carter was standing at the counter, and smiled when he saw me.

"Good morning." he said.

"Good morning," I replied cheerfully.

"Where do I start?"

"I'll be your trainer," he said. "Now, here's the basics." He came around from the counter and gestured to the shelves. "These are books."

I nodded. "Mm hm." He returned to the counter.

"When someone buys a book, you scan the bar code with the thingy." He held up the scanner. "And that's it."

"I don't know if I can handle all that," I joked. He nodded. "It's pretty complicated stuff. After a few weeks Sandy will probably let you help the customers and stuff, but for now, that's all you'll be doing." I took my place behind the counter.

"Oh, and one more thing," he said.

I turned to look at him.

"Hm?"

"You're beautiful," he whispered in my ear.
