Sitting out at the table on the back veranda, I felt extremely uncomfortable. The eye contact that had been going on between Beau and I all night was almost non-existent he couldn’t even look in my general direction. Layla and Thomas were the centre of attention as they were telling us they had booked a six week holiday to Europe because for so long they have both wanted to travel. Alex must have sensed that I was distracted because he looked at me and mouthed. "You alright?" I nodded indicating that he had nothing to worry about.
After a while the group conversation taking place at the table formed into three separate conversations and I ended up talking to Alex about my work. He still remained a wildcard; I knew barely anything about him except that he was a wealthy socialite and CEO of a major music company. I am dying to know more about him he is such a mysterious person and that intrigues me to no end. Eventually Alex and I took our drinks inside to just sit down and talk but instead of gesturing for us to sit on the couch, I took his hand leading him to my bedroom. Entering the air conditioned chamber that smelt of my hair product and perfume Alex took a seat on the end of my bed. My room was dark and although the street light from outside was letting in some light. I stood in front of him, placing a loose piece of my hair behind my ear and taking a sip of my drink before either of us said anything.
"So I'm allowed in the bedroom am I?"
"Yeah I guess so." I smiled.
"You seem tense, what's going on?" He asked placing his hands on my hips and pulling me in closer.
"Nothing, I'm cool." I reassured him. He dropped it continuing on with the conversation.
"Thanks again for inviting me tonight."
"No problem, you're welcome."
"Next time I will take you out and you can see the kind of life I live."
"That sounds truly wonderful, I would like that." With that he pulled me in to sit on his lap and we kissed passionately, closing the space between us. I was thinking about the amount I had had to drink as well as Beau all while kissing Alex. Ending the kiss I found myself smiling he laughed so continuing on with the fun I pushed him back against my bed. The both of us crashed amongst my array of pillows and blankets, lucky my glass was now empty. I was completely in the moment and loving it when Layla decided to knock on the door.
“Hey Kate, where do you keep your shot glasses?” I rolled my eyes and smiled at Alex beneath me before replying.
“In the cupboard above the stove behind the Tequila.”
“You have Tequila?!” Layla shouted.
“Don’t touch it that stuff is lethal.”
“Bad experience?” Alex asked.
“Experiences,” I replied. He laughed pulling me in for another kiss, pulling away I cuddled up to him completely zoning out thinking about Beau yet again and the altercation we had earlier on. It was such an unusual feeling to have Beau not being supportive of my decisions.
“Are you alright?” Alex asked looking at me with concern.
“Yeah, yep, sorry.”
“Come on be honest something is bothering you, what is it?” He began to weave his fingers in amongst mine. I hadn’t been this close to the guy in ages and this time together was meant to be blowing my mind but again I can’t stop thinking about Beau being upset.
“It’s Beau we had a chat in the kitchen before, truth is I don’t think he likes you. The heated conversation resulted in me accusing him of being jealous.”
“Arhh now it all makes sense, I just assumed he was a distant kind of person.”
“Yeah I regret what I said because there is no way he could possibly be jealous because he is completely in love with his bitch of a girlfriend.’
“You don’t like her?” Alex asked.
“I don’t like to have enemies but since they have started dating I have just never got along with her. She just constantly treats him like shit.”
“Well I reckon it’s a friendship thing, you were worried for him when he began dating his girlfriend maybe he is just looking out for you in return.”
“Yeah, aww that completely makes sense.” I replied kissing him yet again.
“How about I have a casual chat to him later and just set the record straight and let him know that I’m not here to upset anyone, especially you.”
“That would be really awesome if you could do that.”
“Well it will help if he likes me considering I plan on spending a lot more time with you.” Alex winked at me. I laid in his embrace for at least half an hour talking about future plans, hobbies and other miscellaneous topics. After a while we thought that it would be best if we joined the others as it would be rude if we were to spend more time locked away together.
Walking into the kitchen Layla and Luc were messing themselves up quickly, they didn’t always drink but when they did it was go big or go home. Tom was filming the downward spiral on his iPhone and laughing at there in inability to say the most basic words. I noticed that Beau was not in the room so I immediately suspected that he had gone home early.
“Hey where is Beau?” I asked as Alex grabbed on to the back of my shirt hugging me from behind.
“Outside, I think” Tom replied followed by Lucy pointing in the direction of the door leading to the back veranda as if I didn’t know where my back door was. Alex whispered sweet words in my ear before making his way to correct things with Beau. All I wanted was for us all to get along as they both play important roles in my life.

Walking out on to the back veranda Alex felt the chill of winter in the air realising that the outdoor fireplaces wasn’t going as strong as before. Taking in the view of North Sydney Beau rested against the railing and took another sip of his drink while considering whether or not he should go home. Alex thought about how to begin this conversation without sounding odd, he wanted to come across as casual. “Didn’t set out to have a big night?” Alex questioned.
“Not their version of a big night, Tequila is nasty.” Beau replied.
“Hey Beau, Kate mentioned the chat you guys had before. I just wanted to get something straight and say that I have no intention of upsetting Kate, or interfering with any friendships she has.”
“Alex I'm gonna be straight with ya. I know your type and the last thing I want to see is Kate be another one of your discarded conquests.”
“I have an idea, how about you worry about looking after your own girlfriend and I will take care of mine.” Alex replied casually walking back inside placing a smile on his face.
