Mum had left the show early saying at she wasn’t twenty anymore and that an after party wasn’t her scene. Which was fair enough plus I wanted to let my hair down and I am almost certain the venue was a night club. Jason just said head to 57 Jones St, North Sydney. This party we had scheduled to start at 7:00pm but it was 6:00pm and people were already here. I paid for parking and met Jason at front door of the club. “Hey didn’t you say that Beau and April was coming?”

“Yeah that’s what he told me, must have forgot.”

“They fighting again?” He questioned.

“I think so… but hey I have had my two cents.” I said placing my hands in the air.

“Yeah I understand” He placed his hand in the middle of my back and lead me into the club. This place was much more upbeat then I expected, but then again it was a club and Jason was in charge of events among other things. I took a seat at the bar and made myself comfortable talking too Josh from Mellow SPLASH we were talking about changing my logo and revamping it. I am excited to see his new ideas, I think now that I am changing as a designer I need something new but we will see.

I felt someone tap me on the shoulder and turned around to see Layla with the slyest smile across her face. She was full with excitement as she winked at me. “He’s here” I looked to where she was gesturing and ………. Holy sh*t……….. Are you freaking kidding me? “That’s him that’s Alexander Laquinto, but he prefers Alex.” I caught my eye on the perfection that had just entered the club. I looked back at Layla and she was reading my mind. “I know….” That’s when she turned to him and shouted over the music. “Hey Alex!” She had caught his attention and his alluring eyes sparkling with a kind of intensity. “Layla…” He said reaching us, going in for the hug and a kiss on the cheek. “How are you? You are looking great.”

“Why thanks, this is my friend that I was telling you about Kate Usher.” I stood up and shook his hand.

“Very nice to meet you Kate” He answered smiling. “My name is Alex.”

“Nice too meet you too Alex.” After making a little eye contact he turned towards the bar and asked the bar maid for two margaritas and a glass of scotch. I could tell by the way that he ordered his drinks that he was a man of power.

Alex, Layla and I quickly found a table and were joined by Thomas, Jason and another girl who I didn’t know of. The rounds of drinks had only just started when Alex and I decided to have private conversation as the rest of the group went on talking about the joys of working for Mercury Designs. “So Kate, I am gathering that it was your fashion show?” He asked.

“Yes it was I am the proud owner of Mercury Designs and the fashion show we held this afternoon was for my new evening wear line called ‘Waiting for Love’.”

“So are you waiting for love?” What was he getting at? Something deeply personal that’s what, I was going to have to throw something smart back.

“Why wait?” Why wait? Oh my God how stupid did I sound?

“That’s right why wait it will come to you soon enough, love is over rated I mean it’s a joyful experience but not if it doesn’t work out.”

“You sound like you’ve been in love…” Did I want to ask deep questions like this even though I had just met this guy, no wait he started it.

“Once and it was nice yeah, what about you? You sound like you like a bit of romance?”

“Me oh no, no, for so long I have been focused on my career and my business.”

“Yeah your career becomes your everything right?” I feel like he secretly knew everything about me either that, he was a ladies man or we had more in common then I cared to acknowledge.

“Yep, so what do you do with yourself?” I asked.

“I am CEO of Sony Records Australia.” He smiled as if he was joking.

“No way” Was that the line he used all the time, why didn’t he use something more believable, just no way ok he can't be telling me the truth.

“Yes seriously no one ever believes me.” Alex smiled taking another sip of his scotch and reaching his hand into his pocket to pull out his phone. He handed me his phone wanting me to look at a photo. “Pitbull and I last night at the annual Christmas party, he is touring down under at the moment.” He was telling the truth, wow what an awesome job.

“That is amazing, so what’s he like?” Alex looked at me sideways and answered my question.

“He is very nice, classy and surprisingly respectful towards women and I was shocked by that after watching his last music video.”

“Oh yeah wow, so who else have you met?” The more that I talked to Alex the more that I wanted to know about him. So close to each other, deep in conversation, talking about various celebrities and there new albums. I heard someone trying to get my attention. “Hey! You two love birds! My shout! Another glass?” Layla was loud and clear making me blush. “I’ll shout!” I answered, “I haven’t bought a drink all night.”

Stepping up to the bar, I ordered drinks with Layla. Even though I was having a great time part of my wondered where Beau had gotten to. I mean I knew that he was most likely with April but I couldn’t help but wonder what happen for him not to show. I worry about him. “So what do you think?” What? Oh she is talking about Alex, well. “I like him…” I said blatantly with a smile on my face as I handed over a fifty for the drinks. “I did well huh?” She asked, did she ever. Alex was someone great for me, he knows what he wants, he has a strong career behind him, good fashion sense and he is extremely sexy. She did do well, but Layla didn’t need her ego boosted. “Yeah Layla, you did alright.” I answered politely carrying a tray of drinks back to our table. “Here you go Alex!” I shouted squeezing into the seat beside him.

“Thank-you so much!” He replied taking his drink, giving me a quick chance to take a look at his watch. Rolex, wow this guy has taste! “Nice watch” I gave him a compliment and he happily received it. I moved in closer so I didn’t have to shout so loud. “Thanks, I bought it last time was in LA.”

“So you’re a jetsetter?” I smiled.

“Yeah but at this stage only for business.” I felt so self-concisions when he smiled at me. He took a sip of his drink before letting me in on his plan. “You wana dance?” He asked.

“I will have to have a few more of these first.” I said holding up my drink as it clinked with my bangles. He laughed and agreed to my statement.

Much to my surprise Alex and I were both dancing to the DJ’s rendition of Gangnam Style. It was most amusing and Alex was getting a laugh out of my failed attempt to dance. Aww well, I didn’t care I was drunk and super happy. The night flew past so fast with the endless amount of dance, laughter and alcohol. I got to the stage in which I thought it would be best to call a taxi and head home. Saying goodnight to Alex was hard but I knew I would see him again. We exchanged numbers before he kissed me on the cheek and told me that he would call after I have recovered from the hangover that he suspected I would have tomorrow morning. The fashion show went so well and tonight has been great, a well needed night out.
