CHAPTER 1
It all started when one day, i was out in the park reciting lines from Shakespeare's Macbeth, in which I was to play lady Macbeth in my university's drama performance.
"That which hath made them drunk hath made me bold; what hath quench'd them hath given me fire" I read from the script.
"Alack, i am afraid th-" I suddenly stopped as a shadow was cast over the field. I looked up, a large bird flew over head and landed and the white marble bridge over the stream. I slowly walked over to the bridge and saw the bird was in fact a sleek beautiful barn owl.
As I got to the bridge I stopped and lent back on the rail, the owl looked at me and tilted its head. I did the same. Then i pulled an apple out of my bag and bit into it. I stared at the bird for a while longer before turning to walk back to the spot I was stood before.
When I got to the end if the bridge I looked back and the owl was gone but in its place a crystal ball. I stared at the shinny ornament, looking curiously into its glass mould, when all of a sudden.....bing bing. Bing bing. Bing. Bing.
The ringing of my phone startled me and I jumped. It was my mum. "Hello" i said answering the phone. " Frances, inneed you to babysit your little sister while I go and look after your grandma, shes ill and needs someone" Ordered my mum. "But mum, tonight I was suppose to be going to a Sophie's 16th birthday party, thats not fair!" I protested.
"I don't care if its not fair, she's your sister and your going to look after her" she demanded. "But she's 12" I shouted. "Yes well she's a young 12" my mum argued. "Fine but I won't enjoy it and don't expect me to be nice to her either" I said rolling my eyes. "Ok then, so get home now I need to go and tea is ready" she said hanging up.
I walked across the field and half way across the bridge when I looked at the mysterious crystal object and stopped. For a second I was sure I saw a face looking back at me, a face I thought I knew. I looked around but there was no one around. So I walked over and put it in my bag, with a smile.
It had just started raining. 'Just my luck' i thought. A huge thunder storm was forcast for the night. So i quickly walked across the rest of the park, over the road and down the street to my house.
I opened the door and shouted up the stairs "Ok I'm here". My mum ran in from the living room "Good, ok see you later sweetie" said my mum giving me a kiss on the cheek that I pulled away from. "Well ok then I'll see you later ok" my mum said grabbing her keys and walking out the door.I sat in my room for the majority of an hour listening to pink floyd on my ipod and playing my guitar, stopping now and then to hear the huge thunder claps and watch the cast of flashing shadows cross my room. I wasn't scared. It wasn't logical to be afraid of a little storm.
At about half 8 I heard a knock at the door. I sat up in my desk chair and listened for any distinctive noises. Nothing. i opened my bedroom door and slowly walked down the stairs and approached the door with caution. Light flashed on the walls followed by the sound of thunder.
"Who is it?" I questioned but no one answered. I opened the door with a quick action but there was no one there. But on the floor was a glass ball, a crystal ball. I bent down and pick it up to look at it. I again saw a face flash actoss the ornaments gleaming surface. But i brushed off the thought and put it in my hoodie pocket and closed the door.
"So who was it" said Georgina. I screamed with shock and dropped my iPod. "for god sake can you please not creep up on me like that" I said picking up my iPod which luckily hadn't smashed. "Go to bed. Now." I shouted before she could protest. She groaned and walked up the stair to her room.
I went into the kitchen and microwaved the lasagne my mum had left for my. I sat at the table and ate it, pulling my face at the cheap food. When I finished I put my plate in the sink and grabbed an apple. I threw it in the air a couple times. But then I swapped hands and the thing that landed in my hand was not an apple but another crystal ball.
I looked around for the apple but couldn't find it. "Strange" I said to my self. I shrugged it off and instead got chocolate bar from the fridge. "Mum always tells me to eat healthy, then the fruit goes missing. Coincidence I think not. It's an prophecy." I laughed and walked out of the kitchen and up the stairs.
I went back to my room and watched avengers. 10 minutes into the film I got a call from sophie. "Hey frances, what you up too" she said as I answered the phone. "Lookin after the demon child" I laughed. "Oh to bad, I'll see you tomorrow then at uni" She said sadly. "Ye see ya" I said putting the phone down.
It was getting on for 10 now and I was trying to finish my pencil sketch of one of my favourite story characters from when I was little. The goblin king my aunt called him she always told story's of him when I was younger. His long blonde hair, mismatched eyes and crooked smile.
I smiled at my piece of work, pleased. I cracked my hands and neck, aching from drawing for so long and put the picture in my leather art folder. I grunted as I flopped onto my bed. My eyelids became heavier and heavier as I was pulled into a deep sleep.
