I listened to the tunes on my iPhone and hummed along to it, enjoying the flight to Australia. The flight attendant made sure that everyone was safe and sound as we would be landing soon. I looked out the window and stared at the big fluffy clouds in the sky imagining how it would feel like to touch them or sit on them.
The flight attendant came over to my aisle to check how everyone was doing. I always liked flying in planes. All you have to do is sit and watch movies, I find it very peaceful and fun.
"Ma'am would you mind shutting the window as we will be arriving to our destination and for safety reasons too?" The flight attendant politely asked.
"Not a problem" I smiled at her and she smiled back.
I closed the window and buckled my seatbelt as the plane descended down to the runway. Once we landed, I grabbed my luggage and went out the plane thanking the flight attendants for a great flight. As I got out the warm air welcomed me to Australia and I smiled.
I made my way inside the airport to grab my other luggage, once I got them I searched for a man with a paper with my name written on it. I found him waiting just outside the arrival gates. He had wrinkles on his face with a glum expression painted across his features with a bald head, he wore a suit and tie and did not look happy to be here. He led me to a limo and opened the door for me, I made my way comfortable on the leather seats as he shut the door and went to put my luggage into the trunk. I was rich, I had to admit. I had a nice two story house all to myself back at California but I decided to come here and expand my studies and get away from my parents.
The road to my new house wasn't eventful, I looked outside the window from the back seat of the limo and sighed deeply. My driver clearly looked like he didn't want to talk so I left it at that. Outside stood many trees and bushes with lots of wildlife. I enjoyed the greenery and the views Australia had to offer.
We reached the forest area as I saw houses getting smaller and smaller in size. I looked out into the forest and immediately liked the sight of it. I, after all had a huge soft spot for animals. The forest provided just that and lots of potential adventure.
Once I reached at the place I would be staying at for 5 years, the driver opened the door for me and I stepped out into the smooth gravel of my driveway. The driver got my luggage out and I fished out my keys and unlocked the door. I sighed as I walked in. I told my parents not to spend lots of money for a house but they insisted and told me that I had a reputation to uphold. The outside was very welcoming, with a white front porch with black railings. The house was painted all white except the black bricked roof.
The house wasn't too fancy, it was homely and cozy. The inside was very vintage and gave off a warm feeling with a fireplace in the corner. The house had 3 rooms, a kitchen, a basement, a game room, a dining room and the lounge. Plus a pool and huge garden facing the forest.
I almost tripped on the stairs as I made my way up to my room thanks to my stupid clumsy legs. Once I finally made my way up to my room without dying, I took in the sight.
My room was average in size but the view was to die for. I had a nice bed in the middle of the room with fairy lights swirling around it and a bedside table with a lamp. In the right corner of the balcony there was a white study table with a reading lamp and a pencil holder, it also came with a computer which I plan to make full use out of. In the other side of the room there was a huge rectangular window with a ledge and 2 doors which led to the closet and bathroom.
I threw my bags on the floor and opened the door that led to the bathroom. The bathroom was the most incredible thing, I know I like a house when the bathroom is amazing. It came with a glass shower that could fit 3 people in and a round bath. The toilet was in the far corner and there were 2 sinks and a long full length mirror.
I got out of the bathroom and made my way to the walk in closet. The closet was average but I didn't have many clothes anyway. All my clothes were mostly ones my mother bought for me to wear at her office parties and many dinners, I made sure to leave those behind. I started to unpack and place my clothes in the closet and toiletries in the bathroom. I was absolutely exhausted at jet lagged and all I wanted to do was head to bed but my parents told me to call them as soon as I landed which I didn't.
I took out my phone from my pocket and scrolled down to the contact named 'Mother'. Most kids would call their mother 'mom' or something along those lines but it just felt weird when i addressed my mother that way. We were not that close, her entire life revolved around her work as a lawyer and she found very little time to take care of me. My entire childhood, I was taken care by nannies because my mother was too busy.
My father was no different, he owned a shipping company and practically lived in his office. My mother did not really care since she was the same. I press the little phone icon and wait for her to accept my call. The phone rings five times and goes to her voicemail. Just like I expected. Instead I send her a text,
Good evening mother, I have arrived in Australia safely.
I don't even bother trying to call my father. Knowing that my mother will take forever to reply, I toss my phone on my bedside table and change into some shorts and a tank top to make myself comfortable and promptly fall asleep as soon as my head touches the pillow.
