"So, uh, what's for dinner?" Jeff asks just as we enter our makeshift camp. The camp isn't really much. Just a tent, fire pit, hammock that we found while scavenging.A tiny farm for carrots, potatoes, some wheat, and some logs along with a makeshift "refrigerator".It's basically a metal box that we found while scavenging too.

"We can hunt for some rabbits or look for some herbs and make a soup. How about I go hunt and you look for some plants.I'll grab my bow," I say as I turn a run towards the tent. The bow was given to me by my dad when I had turned eight. I will have used it for six years in about a month. A birthday that I probably won't have...

"Well,I'll see you in a bit," Jeff says turning around to search.

Just as Jeff leaves, I hear a rustle in the bushes. I nock an arrow and ask,"Hello?" a hint of fear in my voice.I hear it again.

I let aim where the sound came from and let the arrow fly. It strikes something with a thud. I run over to the bush and see my arrow sticking out of a thing strait out of a horror movie.

The alien I hit is about the size of a baby with light gray skin, huge bulging coal black eyes black as coal, and long fingernails the same color as its skin. Blue blood gushed out of the arrow wound.

"What the..." I asked myself, voice trailing off as I rip the arrow out of the alien.

I walk around, cleaning off the blood on my arrow.I find deer tracks so decide to follow them.I follow the tracks for about twenty five minutes and here a scream.

"HELP!" Jeff's voice calls out.

"Jeff! I'm coming!" I yell, running into a dead sprint.I end up back at the camp and see Jeff trying to fend off the third monster of the day. This one is only about five feet tall, but muscular with red eyes, swords for hands, black skin, and and his clothes were made out of scraps of trash, foliage, and and hides of animals.

I immediately re-nock my bow and take aim mid stride and let go.The arrow flings off the bow string and strikes through the monsters left sword-hand,getting stuck halfway through. The monster wasn't fazed by the attack and turned to face me.

"Crap," a say under my breath, turning to run."Run Jeff!" I yells as I turn my back to let the alien chase me.I run as far away as I can and end up in the city.I look behind and see the thing about sixty yards away and see a tiny figure not to far behind it.

"JEFF! RUN THE OTHER WAY!" I scream at the top of my lungs, throat feeling the raw from all of the screaming. I realized that when I stopped, it gave the alien time to get about 10 yards from me. The fear coursing through me was unimaginable. I turn around and sprint faster than I ever have before. Through a series of twists and turn through the ruins, I find a flipped car and hide behind it to take a risky look behind me. To my surprise, the alien was bewildered, turning around in circles to try and track me down.

"AHHHHHH!" an angered scream yells from out of nowhere. I look up and see a figure jump off a building from about the fourth story and lands on the things back. It pulls out a knife and tries to jab at it. The skin to its surprise was impenetrable.

"GET OFF ITS BACK AND RUN!" I scream.

Jeff appears right behind a building with his bronze short sword in his left hand.He runs up behind the alien and attacks his leg.He manages a small cut but that was it.It seemed to be enough to startle it since it wasn't used to being hurt. The person on its back was violently thrown off its back, crashing to the ground with a thump. It stood up, hood falling down to reveal a young woman with hazel eyes, dirty blond hair, and a bruised face. She muttered something under her breath and a teal mist flowed from her fingertips to materialize a bow and arrow. The bow and arrows were the same color as the mist. She nocks an arrow that had a red tip and fired.

The arrow crashes into the alien's face, exploding it in a cloud of teal and black. (A pretty cool color combo if you ask me.)

"What in the world was that!" I exclaim, still in shock from what just happened.

"Could you teach us how to do that?" Jeff asks.

"Why?" the woman asks, raising her eyebrows.

"Look, I'm Nick and this is Jeff. We live about a mile deep into a small forest. We have been here and on the run since The Invasion. We have had a hard time finding ways to defend ourselves. Using magic or whatever that was would help us tremendously."

"Look, there are only certain people that have this ability. It's quite complex. Here, let me take you to a guy I know that can tell if your able. Then we'll see." she said, turning around.

She stops and turns her head towards us,"By the way, my name is Kathrine Boise, but call me Kate."

And with that she turned away and walked down the ruined road, not stopping once to look back.
