Chapter fourteen: Escaping Reality

The entire ride was silent as nobody made the effort to say anything. Nao could only stay silent. She is still shocked upon the truth behind Eisuke's cold attitude towards his father. Everything makes sense to her now. She once wondered why Eisuke was so cold and distant towards his own father. She never knew that the truth would be this painful, this devastating.

Eisuke stayed silent as well, driving the car so fast but without any place to go in particular. He just drives the car like his life depends on it, fast and furious.

"Where are we heading to, Eisuke?" Nao decided to break the tension between them by asking a question. Eisuke didn't reply, he didn't even budge. He's only looking straight to the road, driving fast and trying not to bump into any other cars. Nao let out a sigh and she let Eisuke has his time to organize his thoughts and feelings. She decided to close her eyes, trying to shake every negative things out of her head but eventually fell asleep along the way.

'How long have I been asleep?' Nao pondered as soon as her system began to function again, her eyes fluttered open when she felt that the car has stopped moving. She sat up straight immediately and scanned her surroundings, only to catch Eisuke staring at her.

"You're awake." Eisuke said, stating the obvious. She looked at him and noticed that his eyes are somehow red and watery. Nao reached out her hand to caress his cheek gently.

"Are you okay?" Nao asked as she continue to caress Eisuke's cheek softly. He enjoyed how her hand gently moved on his cheek but then he suddenly grabbed her wrist and pulled her close to him, trapping her in a tight embrace. Nao was surprised on the sudden contact but then regained her composure and hugged him back. They stayed like that for some time, enjoying each other's company silently.

"Can't we just be together?" Eisuke asked. This question caught her off guard and it made her eyes widen in shock. Hearing no replies coming from Nao, Eisuke let out a shaky breath and embraced her tighter.

"I only want to be with you, now and forever. I don't want anyone else. I just want you. I need you in my life, Nao." Eisuke confessed, his voice cracked every now and then until he finished his words. He broke down while he's still embracing her tightly. Nao couldn't help herself from tearing up when she saw Eisuke broke down like that. She patted his back gently, trying to soothe him.

"I'm sure we can figure this out somehow." Nao said, trying to convince Eisueke but she actually wasn't sure with her own answer either. What if they are not meant to be together? What would everyone think about them, a step brother dating his own step sister?

Nao decided to shook all the thoughts away from her head and try to focus on the current situation.

'No good comes from overthinking. I'm sure we will get out from this mess sooner or later.' Nao mentally nodded as she convinced herself. She pulled away from Eisuke and cupped his face in her hands. They were now looking at each other face to face but Eisuke looked away instead as he couldn't bring himself to look at her at the moment. Nao felt her heart throb when he refused to look at her and chose to look away like that.

"Look at me, Eisuke." Nao pleaded. Eisuke slowly turn to look at her. Nao smiled and brushed her thumbs against his face to wipe Eisuke's tears away. She leaned in and planted a soft kiss on his forehead. Everything happened so fast and now it was Eisuke's turn to be surprised upon the sudden action.

"I'm sure we can be together. But let's not think about how and when at the moment. Let's just live our days to the fullest with each other's company. We'll figure this out, I'm sure of this Eisuke." Nao said as she touched her forehead with his. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath.
