Clay's POV
I was becoming bored with sitting down on the old wooden park bench, it also began to drizzle slightly, so I decided to get off my butt. There was a convenience store a couple blocks to my right, and I thought I could take shelter from the rain in there for a while.
Speed walking towards my destination, I arrived there shortly despite the distance. As I rested for a minute underneath the roof of the store, the television caught my attention. It was on the news channel and story was about the new discovery at Blue Clover. The reporters went on about how there was a body found amongst the rubble in a secret room. I chuckled at the fact that they called the room secret, it sounded like the school was in some shady business. They identified the body as Luke Ashton, the news of that quenched my curiosity.
If his family name wasn't so cool, I might have fell asleep, the steady fall of rain and my lack of energy had made tired. Also, the person manning the counter changed channels, therefore I wanted to go to another location that could give me more information about Luke's death. I'm not sure if they announced that he was murdered, nevertheless I was going to find out no matter the cost. I don't know why I wanted to find out so badly, but I never let myself get left out when there is something important, to me anyways.
Not wanting to move and disrupting my energy saving process, I switched on my data base of a brain. There was probably a motive for this murder, and I wanted to find out. The person that could help me the most who was easy to reach probably was his sister. Thinking back, I remembered the day I snuck into the principal's office and looked through the students' personal information. I didn't do that because I was a creep or something like that. My reason for that was because there may have been a small chance it could help me in a situation like this. Or, I may have done it because I was slightly bored.
Lexi Ashton's complex was Hazle Maple, and her house was right at the end of Silver Avenue Road. I was in luck because it was around the corner. At my arrival, I noticed it was a well kept neighborhood, and the houses were huge with gray walls and roof shingles. There were no gates, but fences separated the many organized houses that were lined on the side of the road. Some houses ranged from three to five floors, including the garage.
Walking up to the front door, I did not hesitate to ring the doorbell, only milliseconds before I did, I remembered that she might not be the one to come to the door. However, after a short while after it rang, I heard footsteps and a voice call out.
"Mom!?!" She said.
She then opened the door and as it was almost fully open, I replied, "Yes, I am mom." Standing there in silence, I decided to break the motionless response by cracking a smile. It was not taken well, but it is no surprise considering her side of the situation.
"What the hell are you doing here?"
It hurt the way she said that, she could have put more enthusiasm in the 'hell' instead of the 'you'. "Have you seen the news?"
"I'm the one that should be asking questions here."
"Okay.... But have you?"
"NO, no I haven't."
"You should."
"What does that mean?"
"It means what it means."
"What.....? More importantly why did you decide to come here in the rain?"
"Oh! Thank you for caring about me! But I think you should turn on the news since-"
"Okay, okay, I will, but will you leave afterwards?"
"Sure and-" I was cut off by the slam of her door, and I resorted to making loud whining sounds. My efforts paid off when she finally opened her door and led me into her home.
I sat on the floor because she wouldn't let me sit on her couch, dirty and all. Also, she made it clear that if I touched her, I would be dead meat. She switched on the television and it was already on the news station, when I had been gone, it was on commercials and commercials take forever. We were just in the nick of time, because the commercials ended right then and there, almost like it was being controlled.
It was still on the same topic, however it had changed scenes, this time it showed my house. I could feel her staring daggers at me now, I wouldn't be surprised if I was actually being stabbed. "WHAAAAAAAAAT!! This isn't what I wanted to show you! Your brother was on the news! It said he had been murdered and as someone who is reallyyyyyyyy curious I thought you might have an idea on who did it!"
"But when I checked, it didn't look like he was murdered!"
"I knew you went back to school! See, you're curious, too!"
"If you knew that would mean you went back too right?"
"That doesn't matter right now, but since we both want to find out who killed him maybe we could work together? Also, don't believe what the press tell you, they lie most of the time." Just as the words escaped my mouth, the television boomed the following; "Clay Valentine, has caught the suspicions of many people who have been working on the case about the young boy, Luke Ashton, that was found in a horrible fire taking place in the high school, Blue Clover."
I scrambled for the remote and changed it to another channel before facing Lexi who was ready to kill me. We debated a lot about why we should keep me alive, why I wasn't the murderer, and why she should let me stay at her place for a little while. She knew I wasn't going to give up, and that if I really was the one that took her brother's life, I would have a bounty on my head. I also added that I was going to be very helpful with finding his real murderer. She finally agreed to let me stay, the downside to it was that I was going to sleep in a closet.
As I tried to make myself comfortable, a question came to mind, "Hey, is anyone else here?" She replied by shaking her head. Then, as I was simply being me, I wiggled my eyebrows a bit. She grabbed a nearby book and smacked me on my face.
