Chapter 1: Softball vs Baseball

~Lauras P.O.V~

Maya, my best friend since 3rd grade, and I were shopping for softball practice clothes at Dick's. It was one of our favorite shopping stores since we started playing softball. In a week we would be captain's of the high school team since we were juniors, also the best on the team. She was always the pitcher and I was always her partner supporting her as catcher. We decided it would be a good time to shop a little before the season started.

"MAYA! Hurry up, I need to try on my clothes too." I said to Maya through the dressing room door. She opened the door and stepped out wearing her softball practice outfit. She was wearing red and black Nike tempo shorts, her black cleats and the red hoodie that said 'Pitch Perfect' in black that I had gotten custom made just for her on Christmas.

"I really like the shorts! You should get them, now hurry up and change." I said.

After a few minutes, Maya came out wearing her black t-shirt with her high waist red skirt.

"Finally" I muttered under my breath. I stepped in the room and began to strip. I was wearing a blue polka dotted crop top, white shorts, and white converse shoes. Once I was in my clothes I looked in the mirror. I was wearing blue nike shorts and a neon pink dry fit shirt. I looked out the door seeing Maya laugh while staring at her phone. I bet she's texting our best friend, Chris, aka her crush.

"Hey Laura! How's it going in there?"

"It's going good. I can't decide between the neon pink or orange shirt though."

"Let me see."

I open and walk out the door wearing the pink shirt. "Umm, I don't know, try on the orange one." Maya said. She turned right back to her phone once I opened the door and walked into the room again.

Once we both paid for our softball clothes we decided to get some food before practice. We ended up at McDonalds.

"I want some fries." Maya said staring at the picture of french fries.

"Umm I think I want chicken nuggets." I said before walking to the cashier.

Once Maya and I ordered our little snacks, we picked a table right by the window.

"How do you think our first practice of being captains will be like?" I asked Maya.

"Not sure, but I know it will be great. What time is it?"

"I don't know." I check my phone. "It's 3:30."

Maya stuffs her last pieces of fries in her mouth before saying, "Come on, I want to be early for practice to warm up!". She drags me as I finish my chicken nuggets before walking towards her car.

~Lauras P.O.V~

"Are we almost there?"

"Laura! Just shut up! We'll get there in like 2 minutes." Maya yelled back at me.

She turned up the music, which the song 'Bang My Head' was playing. I groaned since it was the beginning of the song while the field came into view.

Once Maya parked her BMW, we walked into the girls locker rooms to see the rest of the team getting ready.

"Hey Captains!" some teammates said as we walked towards are lockers.

"Hurry up girls! We need to warm up with the boys today!" said Coach Rush as she walked through the door that lead to the field.

"What did she say?!" I asked Maya as she slipped on her cleats.

"She said we have to practice with the boys today." she replied as she rolled her eyes.

Great, we had practice with the boys for the first day of softball this season. It wasn't that they were bad or anything it was just that, they were jerks. They treated us like we didn't know what we were doing.

~Mayas P.O.V~

"Ok! We will be doing 5 laps around the entire field today ladies and gentlemen!" said Coach Miller, the baseball coach for the boys team.

Once I passed first base, Laura caught up with me.

"Hey."

"Hey, has coach told you how practice is going today?" I replied back.

"No, you?"

"Not a clue." I said with a curious and disappointed face.

We didn't speak for the rest of the jog.

We all were taking our water break and Laura was talking about how she had nothing to wear for her family reunion this weekend.

"Do you want to borrow some of my clothes?" I say interrupting her.

"Yasssssss, please! That would be great, I'll pick it up tomorrow after school then."

I smile at her as Coach Rush whistles to get everyone's attention.

"Okay everyone, to get practice started. You will go in pairs."

Laura and I look right at each other once we hear the last words out of coaches mouth.

"Before you start picking pairs both coaches have already picked the pairs between both girls and boys teams."

I rolled my eyes as I kept listening to coach speaking.

"Okay so the first pair will be Amanda and Noah, then James and Lily, Maya and Jeff..."

I look at Laura with a disgusted face as coach continued naming partners, Jeff wasn't that great at baseball compared to others on his team. Laura just shrugged and looked back at coach.

"The last pair is Laura and Luke."

Laura and Luke?! Luke is the most popular and hot guy in the school! He may not be the smartest guy but might I add he's a great baseball player. Every girl at school wants to be with him. I don't even think I know a girl who doesn't think he's hot. Even Laura, who wouldn't admit it, had a crush on Luke.

"Okay! Everyone get a ball and start playing catch!" Coach Miller yelled.

Ugh here we go.

What are they doing over there?!

Laura and Luke have been tossing the ball back and forth like the rest of us, but I noticed something.

He kept smiling at her and she kept giggling every few minutes. Oh no! Now she's blushing a little!

~Luke's P.O.V~

When I heard I was paired with Laura, I didn't know what to think. I didn't really know her much. She seemed cool but I only knew her by name.

"Hey." I said as I jogged up to her.

"Hey" she replied. I could sense the nervousness in her voice.

I grabbed a ball from the bucket and tossed it at her. She caught it easily and in one swift movement she threw it back. After a while of repeating the process I couldn't stop the smile that showed up on my face. She was good. I watched her as she thought every move throughly.
