The echoes of sirens blared through the night as countless screams followed. It was the beginning of the end for the world. A certain virus had escaped that spread through direct saliva to blood contact, only allowing the brain to only use its instinct for survival as a means to eat raw meat. Only a few survived this plague. This is the story of how a certain group of people survived.

Chapter 1 (Tim)

I sat on the couch going through my phone when I noticed a text from my friend Mariah asking if I'd seen the news. I told her I hadn't and turned it on. Chaos is what I noticed when I looked through the screenshots of people running, screaming and biting each other... biting? My eyes got large recalling the many stories and myths of the undead biting people and spreading a virus; I quickly got my bag and started filling it with food and supplies. I texted Mariah asking where she was she replied she was at home. I told her don't move and to defend herself till I got there. I drove through the streets of the abandoned houses and neglected roads. I pulled up to her house and grabbed my weapon of choice a two-and a half foot long piece of wood I carved up to use for practice, and went to the door. The first thing I noticed was that the door was open. I easily pushed it open and walked inside closing the door.

"Mariah?" I called out with no answer. I moved quickly through the house. I opened door after door till I opened one door and on the floor were lying Mariah's parents unmoving. They had blunt spots on their heads indicating someone had hit them there. I noticed their eyes too they were grey and lifeless. They had already been changed. I heard a door creak and spun stick up in the air at the ready.

"Mariah?" I spoke when I recognized her. She was visibly shaking so I ran to her and pulled her to me. "It's ok I'm here." I said.

"The... They wouldn't stop. I ha... I had to hit them." She stammered out slowly.

"I know... I know. Easy, breathe, that's it. In and out there you go. Come on lets go sit down ok?" I spoke soothingly to her and moved her to the couch away from the bodies in the bedroom.

About two hours later she was doing better and breathing normal. I sat her down again after she was pacing trying to figure out what to do.

'Well, what about your parents? Do you know where they are?" she asked me.

"My mom was at work so I know she should be ok. As for my dad I don't know." I replied quietly. "My mom should be ok for now. Jordan is away, I don't know what happened to her. I might assume she's dead, or worse."

"Oh no, I'm sorry." She replied looking at me from across the room, tears staining her cheeks.

"Don't need to dwell on it. We need to get to the school, see if they survived. So grab some clothes, any extra food, and weapons. Get water too. We'll need that too." I said going to the kitchen. Mariah ran through the house grabbing who knows what and putting it in her bag. She grabbed her bow from her closet and her guitar from the window sill. She ran into the kitchen and threw cans of vegetables and fruit in a bag.

"We have some collagen bottles in the back. You should put your stuff in our car and I'll grab the keys." She ran from the room again and came back with a set of keys." We'll just need the key for the car." She said then handed me the key. "Here, take care of my baby." She said smirking.

"Sure thing princess," I said grabbing the keys from her. "Wait What about your dads truck..."

Her eyes widened at that and ran again coming back with a smaller set of keys. "Here, you drive the truck and I'll drive the car." She said snatching the keys from my hand.

We ran from the house with our bags packed and ready to go. I got to the truck and started it waiting for the garage door to open. When they finally did Mariah came out looking pissed.
