LUKE POV

I ran to a small deserted cafe at the end of some random street. I was eager to find out how Vanessa reacted to my  asshole comment. I sat down inside the cafe and opened my messages.

'Oh, Luke. I may be gullible, but at least I'm not as stupid as you look.'

'Sorry, maybe you didn't understand that insult. I would explain it to you, but I don't have the time or the crayons.'

I shake my head, amused at her reply. This girl has quite the comebacks. I play with my lip ring while formulating an insult back. I am startled by someone's presence beside me.

"Sorry to scare you, but how may I help you, sir?" An older man asks.

"Oh, I'll get a coffee and the best thing you've got for lunch," I say back quickly. I just want this man to go away so I could get on with my more important things.

"How do you like your coffee?" The man asked slowly.

"I'll take it with a little bit of milk and sugar," I answer.

"What kind of cheese do you like?"

"I don't care, I'll take whatever," I say slightly annoyed.

"How well done do you like your toast?" He continues.

"I like it slightly browned. Anything, but burnt," I say through my clenched teeth.

"Alright, your food will be out soon, kind sir," The old man says cheerily. I roll my eyes as he walks away.

I turn back to my phone.

'AW VANESSA!!!1!!!11!!!!1! I don't appreciate the fact that you think I'm stupid, but it means you think about me. (Insert approximately 17 hearts)'

I get a reply almost immediately. Haha, thirsty bitch.

'I don't think you're stupid. I know you're stupid. Besides, everyone's entitled to act stupid once in awhile, but you really abuse the privilege.'

Wow, I think to myself. She didn't even acknowledge my fake happiness. She just went straight to the insults. I go to compose my reply. I am interrupted, yet again, by the old man. However, this time, he brought me my food. A coffee, grilled cheese, and a bowl of tomato soup is placed on the table. I look up to see the man smiling. I give him a small smile and I murmur out a thank you. My attention is turned back to my phone.

'Wow, Vanessa. You are very good with comebacks. They'll take you far someday, and when you get far, I hope you stay there.'

I sit there, staring at my screen, waiting for another insult to come my way. I am surprised by something other than a witty insult. I receive something that should be wished upon no human being.

'Luke Hemmings, I hope you step on a Lego.'

I laugh at the simplicity, then cringe at the feeling we all know.

'I am wounded, Vanessa.' [Insert picture with my hand over my heart].

I sit back and wait for a response. However, I don't get one immediately. My untouched lunch is awaiting me. My stomach growls and my hunger becomes apparent. I grab the sandwich and drench it in the tomato soup. In mid-bite, my phone dings and lights up. My savoring has been interrupted.

I wipe my hands off and open her message.

'Oh, how I wish you were wounded. Then, I wouldn't have to deal with your annoying ass.'
