           Merida's P.O.V

I felt Hiccup's hand tighten and he took a step in front of me, as if to protect me. The men that burst in were all British soldiers, all drunk, I might add, and Jonathan with them.

'You dirty rat.' I thought to myself.

It was like a stand-off. Each side was waiting for the other to attack first. Some held swords, others loaded their guns. I reached slowly into the folds of my dress and gripped my knife, my fingers falling upon it slowly.

"Merida! Get yer hands off my daughter, ya patriot scum!" My father yelled, rushing into the tavern. I groned. He seemed to be the drunkest man in the tavern, and that's saying something.

"Merida!" He called once more. Everyone seemed to hold their breath, and every eye seemed to be on me. I took a deep breath, but I didn't move. Hiccup gazed into my eyes with so much emotion, that I couldn't really tell what he was feeling.

I looked back at my father defiantly. "No. Go home Fergus."

He shook him head, as if trying to process what had happened.
"What are ya doin' lass? Come here!"

"No." I said a bit louder this time. "You think I'll just come over just like that?!? I'm not a dog! I'm your daughter! Yet you treat me like....like...like a slave! I'm tired of the way you treat me, and all the people if this town! I'm a patriot. And that means you can't tell me what to do!"

This earned me many loud whoops and cheers from the patriots and horrified faces from the loyalists, especially Fergus. But nothing ment more than the smile Hiccup sent at me. I even felt my heart flutter and my cheeks get a bit hot.

Furious, Fergus rushed forward and threw Hiccup to the ground. He grabbed my arm and slapped me harshly. I quickly slid out my knife and he chuckled. He grabbed it and I screamed as he dug it into Hiccup's arm after he had gotten up to help me. I glanced over to see the soldiers charge the patriots. I tried to pull Fergus off Hiccup but he pushed me out of the way as the wrestled. Trembling, I picked up a pistol a found on the ground and lifted it up. Fergus and Hiccup froze.

"Get off him, or this will be bloodier than the Boston Massacre." I promised. Fergus dropped Hiccup, who groned in pain. The soldiers gathered around Fergus, but the patriots gathered around Hiccup and I.

"You heard the lady. Get lost, lobster-backs." One growled.

Fergus grunted and limped off, the others trailing behind him out of the tavern.
