Chapter 9
Later...
Riker POV
My whole family was here now. I wasn't really supposed to have any visitors, but mom argued with some people until they were all allowed to come hang out in my room. Skylar was sitting in a chair next to my bed, holding my hand.
I'd had X rays done, and other than the 2 ribs that were already broken, everything else was fine. It was just going to be really sore for the next few days.
My jaw and nose were ok too. But they hurt.
I wasn't allowed to leave until the nurses were sure that I was ok. But they thought I was going to be able to go home a little later tonight.
"Mom, I'm hungry," I said, quietly.
"Rocky and Rydel, go get your brother something please. There's a place on the second floor," mom said.
"And Skylar?" I asked.
"Yes, get Skylar something too," mom said.
Rocky and Rydel left after mom gave them money.
I had the sheets on my bed pulled up to my chin. I was kind of cold. Skylar had laid her hoodie over me.
Rocky and Rydel came back with sandwiches. And dad had left to go to the police station, and talk to them.
Later...
Riker POV
I was finally released from the hospital around 7:30. And I couldn't go home and go to sleep yet. I had to go to the police station with Skylar to answer more questions.
After the questioning was over, I was requested to go speak to the guys that had bullied me my whole life. An officer led me down a hallway to where they were all sitting behind bars.
"They can get bailed out tonight. But we already spoke to your school, and they're no longer allowed to attend school there," the officer said.
"Really?"
"Really."
I wanted to scream I was so happy. But that would be rude. I'd do it later...
I just sort of stared at them.
"I had a question," I said walking closer.
I stared Skylar's ex right in the eyes.
"Since you're behind bars, and I'm not, that means I won, correct? Last man standing gets Skylar?"
He just glared at me.
"I'll take that as a yes!"
I walked out, back to everyone who was in the lobby of the police station. Skylar took my hand, and intertwined our fingers.
We walked out to the car, and mom dropped Skylar off at her house. And then finally we were home. I showered, and got into my pjs. I got in bed, and fell asleep immediately.
The next day...
Riker POV
My alarm went off, and I groaned, not feeling like getting up.
"Riker."
"I know. I have to get up."
"No. Mom says you're staying home today. She wants you to be a little better before you go back."
"Oh... Right..."
I shut off my alarm, and rolled over in bed, wincing slightly from my rib pain.
After everyone left, someone knocked on the door. I groaned, not wanting to leave my bed. I got up, and dragged myself out of bed, all the way downstairs to the front door. I opened it, feeling annoyed.
"Riker!"
Skylar hugged me tight.
"What are you doing here?"
"Your mom told me you were going to stay home. So I asked her if I could stay at your house and take care of you today, since you protected me yesterday, now I can take care of you, and she said sure!"
"Oh... Wow... Skylar, you don't have to if you don't want to."
"I want to. You deserve it! You were amazing yesterday, Riker. You totally deserve someone taking care of you all day. And I'd be more than happy to do it."
"Well... Alright..."
I made my way to the couch in the living room. Skylar and I sat down next to each other.
"You know, I kept my promise," I said, looking at her.
"What do you mean?"
"I promised you that you wouldn't get hurt. And you didn't. I protected you."
"I know. And I really appreciate that," Skylar said, hugging me.
"You trust me now, right?"
"Of course I do!"
I sighed.
"Good."
"And you won, you know. You beat him. And now I'm all yours."
"You were mine before that. But now he has to accept it without fighting."
"Yeah... Do you remember a few weeks ago, you were this dorky boy who stuttered all the time, and let people push you around?"
My cheeks felt like they were burning as I nodded.
"Well look what you've become, Riker. You have bravery and confidence. You don't stutter, and you stick up for yourself. And me. You're not even a dork anymore. The clothes you wear now make you look hot. And no dork I know could stand up against the popular crowd. And then win!"
"I've never really thought about myself other than a dork..."
"Well you're not a dork anymore. In fact, you never were in the first place. That's just what people, including yourself, labeled you as. But you're not, and you never were."
"Well you changed me into this."
"I did. And you weren't very sure about it at first."
"I know... I questioned the whole makeover thing. And you yelled at me for stuttering and all that. But I'm glad you did. Because I like this me better than the old me."
"So do I. And especially since I'm dating this Riker. I couldn't ask for anything more."
I smiled. We both leaned in, and our lips connected.
"Riker?"
"Yeah?"
"I love you."
"I love you too."
The end.
