Pulling into his apartment complex was like being at home once again, and seeing him waiting outside of his house for me to show up at 1:57 a.m gave me a sense of comfort. I parked in the spot next to his car where I always used to park when we were best friends. Once I grabbed all of the stuff was able to get out of Jason and my house, I get out of the car and walk towards Derek he looks the same, a little taller and his hair a little longer.
"You're like 3 ft tall D what are you gonna do" I laughed as I held his lunch bag over my head seeing as I was a solid 5 inches taller.
A smile appeared on my face thinking about our fun in 4th grade. Now Derek's 5'11 a solid 5 inches taller than me. He wrapped his long arms around me and a comforting sensation ran down my spine. I felt safe. His light brown hair was in his green eyes with sever bed head. He led me up to this apartment. Opening the front door for me. The couch has a blue blanket and a pillow on it which wasn't normal seeing he had a two bedroom apartment. My confusion was answered as his mom walk into the living room. She hugged me like my own mother would. I stood there blank faced not knowing how to react. She frowned as she said "aren't you excited to see me dear". "I-I-I um yes defiantly. You know I love you Mrs. Marsh, I just wasn't expecting to see you here is all" I said flashing her a smile. "Mom's leaving tomorrow morning" Derek said. "Well Mad it was great to see you, I love you honey, but boy am I tired D becomes more of a pain in my ass every year, night kids" Mrs. Marsh said closing the door to the guest bedroom.
"Thanks for letting me stay" I said while sitting on the couch. He laughed "Madison, do you really honestly think I would let you sleep on the couch, go get into my room, I'll sleep on the couch". I was shocked, how could he offer that, he had done enough. "Derek you can't do that, you've done so much for me, I'll sleep on the couch it's fine". I said. He was persistent, he didn't give up. "I refuse to sleep in my bed. I guess we just won't sleep." he said being the stubborn child he still was. Rolling my eyes I said "I guess not". He pouted out his bottom lip trying to look as sweet and innocent as ever. I crossed my arms refusing to take his room. Him letting me stay here at 2:30 a.m was a nice enough gesture, he didn't have to give me his bed also! "Mad c'mon, please. You've had a rough enough night. Go get some sleep. I'm tired, you're tired. Can we please just rest a bit. With you in my room, getting the right kind of rest" I gave up and nodded my head in defeat. "Thank you, for everything. Goodnight" I said while grabbing all my stuff and plugging my currently dead phone into the wall.
As I was brushing my teeth I heard the buzz of my phone turning back on. I saw a few texts from Jason as I climbed into bed. I didn't bother to read them.
The blankets were warm and my room was dark. The pit in my stomach grew, as I knew I would never feel Jasons arms around me, or his voice when telling me he loved me as I fell asleep on chest. I would never feel his lips touching my forehead or kissing me goodnight. Knowing that the last time he held me, or he kissed me, would forever be the last time, it broke my heart. How does everything we worked for these last 2 years go down the drain in not even 2 hours. I still have so many questions about this girl. Does she know I exist? Does she care? Is she pretty? Is she cheating on someone with Jason? How long have they been seeing each other? I felt nauseous. I closed my eyes trying to push away the bad feeling, the worse the feeling got, the tighter my eyes closed. Eventually I faded off to sleep...
