Mohit and I enter the office together and meet other interns as well. Among them is my best friend Manvi and my college friends Rohit, Zoya, Zeel and Mir. Manvi and I are practically stuck-to-the-hip-best-friends, she is my "sister from another mother". I know it's a cliché, but it is what it is. We both actually can't think living without each other, atleast I can't. She is my support system. Whenever I feel distressed, she zaps me out of it just like that. We both started off from grade 4 and as years passed by our bond grew to be more stronger. She is my female HERCULES! My Knight in shining armour. We studied in the same school, study in the same college and now we are the interns in the same office. Like I said stuck-to-the-hip-best-friends.
We are studying Film Direction and Editing in a reputed Film Institute which is renowned in the whole country because of it's very famous and talented alumnus. It is here where I and Manvi met Rohit, Zoya, Zeel and Mir and the six of us became a gang. I love these people to bits.
Since childhood I am in awe of Bollywood. The music, dance and especially the stories. They have always attracted me towards them. I just love stories. Happy stories. I love listening to them and also I used to create my own. Sometimes, my little brother used to listen to stories from me at night so that he could get a good night sleep. We both used to be terrified of nights. Atleast my brother found his solace on my stories, I had found none. All I had were those noises of Maa and Baba. Those violent sounds.
*slap* "Aah!!!" *slap* "How dare you question me you wretched woman?" *thud*
Ohh!!! Where was I? Yeah, my stories. I am more of a story teller and what better profession than being a movie director, which can give my stories life and also get me to Bollywood, my dream where I don't even have to be in front of the camera.
We join a reputed production company as interns who gave many of my favorite movies. We were seated at a conference room which was larger than the size of a half of a football field. No! I am not exaggerating or maybe I am. I am bad at estimation. I was busy fidgeting my fingers and trying to calm my tense nerves as my idol and our boss was going to arrive for a little orientation. There were around 20 odd more interns present in the room who looked so calm and confident, that it made me drown more and more into anxiety.
Soon, Mr. Raj Chakraborty arrives with his assistant behind. He is a man with panache and grace. There is an aura about him that makes people stop everything and look upto him. Manvi quietly murmurs, "Oh my God! He is so God damn HOT!" I shush her and pay my attention to him. Across the table, Mohit looked at me and gave me a bright smile. I don't know how and why, but his smile eased me.
"Ladies and gentlemen! I am Raj, I hope you guys know me, if you don't then that means my movies are truly shitty!". Everybody started laughing. I chuckled too although I didn't find it funny. His movies are not shitty. His movies are the reason why I am here at the first place.
"Ok ok, jokes apart. Welcome to Magik Curtain Productions. I believe that all you guys will bring in new energy and zest in our little company and help it grow with your talent, fresh ideas and hard work. I also hope that you all learn the ropes of film making and cultivate your knowledge about this art and grow your own personality, because your knowledge and personality will help you survive in this industry. I am sorry if I am being blunt, but there is cut-throat competition out there. To survive you have to be more and more creative everyday and bring new and amazing ideas EVERY. SINGLE. DAY to the table. That is how you get recognized here. So, without wasting any further time I would like to wish you all the very best for your time here because it's not going to be very easy".
After the speech, we all were divided into certain groups and allotted different projects. Three movies were supposed to go on the floor simultaneously and the movie that I was allotted is going to be directed by Raj sir *happy dance in the inside*. Manvi was in another team along with Zoya and Mir. Rohit and Zeel were in mine and so was Mohit. Mohit approaches me with that same beautiful smile and says, "This is going to be fun! We are gonna work together". "Yeah! It will be. By the way, meet my friends. This is Rohit and Zeel and there is Manvi, Mir and Zoya. Guys! This is Mohit. We bumped each other right before we entered the office". "Oh yeah! Payal is a clumsy bum as always", chuckled Rohit. I gave him a death glare that made Rohit stop in his tracks. "Oh no! Not her. It's me who is the clumsy bum in the story. I accidentally stumbled and fell on her. I am really sorry Payal". "Hey! It's ok".
Please stop fretting and no more sorry". "Okay! It's a deal". And on that note he treats me with that sparkling glint in his eyes and that captivating smile and I remain mesmerized, stopped and still in my tracks.***
