Chapter Seven: Daddy, Go Home!
Skrm was located in the catacombs of Monster High, hidden behind a large pile of skeletons. Thankfully, Operetta lead the way for us even though I told her about my top notch navigation skills. The stadium was roaring with monsters screaming and yelling for their school. The ceiling was up high, the bleachers were full of ghouls and at the far end I could see Head Mistress waving to some students.
Just the atmosphere was excited!
"Meow~ This'll be so much fun!" I cheered.Draculaura and Frankie locked arms with me and hauled me up the bleachers, "Come on! Let's find a seat before they're all taken."
Walking up the bleachers, it was obvious where we were going to sit; the three open seats between Claude and Cleo. Although, I caught a sight of yellow in my peripheral and turned my head to the left enough to see Jackson. My heart did that thing where it flips and beats like Mad and the smile on my face was undeniably a Cheshire smile but just as a was about to say Hello, I saw Torelai sit next to him and purr.
Instead of making it known that I saw it, I just kept walking. Yet, I couldn't help this feeling of... Jealousy? I sat down with a frown only Frankie saw.
"Ghoulfriend, what's wrong? You seem so down all of a sudden." She rubbed my arm, kindly. Her skin was cold but still some-what comforting. I shook my head and looked back at Jackson, I could only see the back of his head but Torelai was turned to the side, facing him, just so she could tease me. She glanced up at me and winked.
"You sure? You look pretty petrified." Cleo never took her eyes off of her nails, but I knew what my face looked like. I straightened myself out and put on a smile.
"Everything is wonderful, don't you worry about me, Kay?"
They looked skeptical about me but didn't pry any further. Soon enough, the announcer started the game and the roaring got even louder.
On Monster Highs team was Robecca Steam, Heath Burns, Manny Tore and Lagoona. Everyone screamed for our team, my ears twitched. I tried to be happy and cheer along but I couldn't stop myself from looking down to see Jackson; his head was low and Torelai was clung to his arm like a rabbit on tea.
I pulled my attention away to see Robecca and a vampire shoving each other in the track. Such chaos made me grin and giggle. Then Draculaura jumped up in batty furry, "Oh come on, that was totally a foul!" She slumped back down, "This game can be so unfair."
"What the...? Ghouls, check that out!" Claude pointed up at the big screen, projecting the game from inside the catacombs. It was a vampire but he didn't look so good. Poor vamp was spinning in circles on his skates, when he finally stopped, he held his head in his hands and looked even paler than before, if that was possible. Suddenly he toppled over, like he was pushed. Though, no one was there.
"What was that about?" Frankie tilted her head and frowned. That's when I saw it, right behind the fallen vampire was the fading grin of a Cheshire. No one seemed to notice but me.
I stood up, "Oh no..."
"Kitty, what's wrong? You've been totally checked out today. Are you feeling okay?" Draculaura asked, sweetly. I nodded and started moving towards the railing.
"I-I'm just fine... I um.. I just need to check on something."
"You're coming back, right?"
"Sure fang." With that, I evaporated to the bottom of the bleachers and took off to find where that sneaky Chershire went.
I saw Robecca sitting down, just about to get up. "Robecca!"
She turned towards me in surprise, "W-what are you doing down here? We're in the middle of a game, love."
I rubbed my ears and sighed, "I know but this is an emergency. My dads in there, if I don't get him out, he is going to ruin your game and maybe get Monster High a losing score if they think we cheated. You've got to let me in there." I panicked.
"Y-you? Are you sure?" she looked up at the time board, "We've got three minutes left in the game, I think we can make it-"
"Robecca, please, I'm the only one who can get him to leave. No one else can see him. If I don't get him out now, he'll cause even more chaos." I was talking about my dad like he was a kitten, only because he acts like one. He never listens...
Robecca gave the time board one more glance then nodded, "Alright, here. You know what to do, yes?" she started taking off her pads and skates and handed them to me.
I shrugged, "I'm a fast learner, besides, I love mazes."
"Good, the rules are, there are no rules. Get him out then come back here. I'll finish the game... If we have time." She sighed, probably because she might not be getting the winning score.
I nodded and laced up, "Sorry for the trouble, but thank you." Then I was off. I could hear the confusion in the crowd as I took off into the entrance.
I heard the announcer call, "What's this? A new monster has entered herself into the game? Let's hope she can win this for her team."
"I hope so, meow~" Shortly, I caught up to Heath and Lagoona who were surprised to see me instead of Robecca.
"What are you doing out here, mate?" Lagoona glided in her skates so gracefully while Heath struggled a little.
"Long story, I'll explain later but right now just keep your eyes open for anything strange." I squinted.
"What do you mean strange?" Heaths hair caught fire when he smiled. I was about to reply when something pushed me hard and practically threw me against the wall.
"Gonna have to do better than that if you wanna beat Vampire Prep." A vamp with short black hair and a red, black and white school uniform glared back at me.
I groaned, "Ow..." Lagoona helped me up and pulled me alongside her.
"You alright, mate? That looked pretty painful."
I shook my head and looked at the vamp that iced me. I grinned, "Iced? Hmm..."
I skated just a bit closer and shot my hand out. Suddenly, there was a patch of ice in front of him, he was going too fast to notice but as soon as his skates made contact with the ice, he was falling down as I sped past him.
"You should watch where you're going." I winked. I sped up, past Lagoona and Heath when I heard a giggle.
"That's my girl, you really do take after me."
I looked above me to see him floating, transparently. I hissed, "What are you doing here? You're gonna get us disqualified."
"And you won't? That was a pretty slick move back there, daughter." He smiled.
"Well, I'm actually playing. The only reason I'm out here is because you didn't listen when I said stay home."
"You never said that. However, you of all people should know I favor reverse psychology. You say stay, I go. You say go, I'll stay. Simple."
I rolled my green eyes, "Fine then, stay here."
"Don't mind if I do."
I gasp, he tricked me. But what should I have expected? I skated harder when I smelled vamps behind me, "Daddy, please leave! I don't want you to ruin this for me. Just go home."
He turned on his back and stayed floating, "And let you have all the fun?"
"Dad."
"Oh alright, alright. I'll go. But next time, just invite me along." He smirked and disappeared.
I sighed, "Great, now I need to get out of here befor-"
Then everything went black.
